I am a professional singer and music composition hobbyist. I graduated from the University of Redlands, CA with a Masters in Music, Vocal Performance. During my graduate work, I sang backup to Josh Groban and The Who. I love most genres of music and specialize in classical, musical theater, and sacred music. Voice students should expect clear and easy explanations (I rarely use abstracts when talking about singing.) I use a method called vowel modification to help my students sing with ease and great quality. Each voice is unique and I promise not to try to make you sound like someone else. If you are looking for a teacher to teach you the basics of singing I'm your guy. I also coach singers for auditions and competitions. In addition, I advise and prepare high-school students for higher education music programs jump-starting their music education through tutorials on college degrees, music theory, vocal health, performance etiquette, tips on healthy practicing, and so much more. I look forward to meeting you and helping you succeed in reaching your musical goals.

Jacob is an excellent teacher! My 16 year old daughter thoroughly enjoyed taking lessons from him and she significantly improved in both her vocal technique and in her confidence as a singer. He was great at helping her prep for musical theater auditions as well. He’s easy to work with and relates well to his students. He is very supportive and does his best to help his students achieve their goals. I highly recommend Jacob as a vocal instructor.

Jacob was recommended to teach my 9 year old daughter through the University of Redlands Community School of Music program. She could not carry a tune so I requested a professor. They suggested Jacob, and I was so glad they did! In the nine months they worked together, he increased her range and taught her to sing a melody. He always made sure to warm up her voice before performing. Not only that, he tailored her instruction to her needs. I was so pleased that I also hired him to coach my son's for auditions and performances. My older son needed to sing like a munchkin for The Wizard of Oz. He taught him the professional way to sing. The entire theater could hear him clearly without a microphone. I was very pleased with his instruction, and very sorry to lose him. Our loss is your gain!

Hello! I'm very exciting to write a review about Jacob's teaching methods and share my experience with him. I hope you will find it beneficial in choosing him as not only a teacher in vocal training, but also in singing! The first time I ever saw Jacob was in church as our director. Right from the start, I knew he had professional training in the way he led the congregation. I found myself singing louder and actually trying to follow him! Then, a few weeks after, he stood up during services and sang a solo; my mouth hit the floor! Jacob is seemingly a quiet man so I didn't know what to expect. I mean, I knew how to read music, but could he really sing loud enough for all of us to enjoy! One word: Amazing! After that, I really got to know him in the church choir. Both he and his wife are musically talented and sing beautifully! My daughter, Tatum, a sophomore in high school, had been singing since she was six -- at home, school, church, and children's theater. She has been in many musicals and loves musicals, but did not have the stamina, nor the expressionism that is really required for stage... and that's what she really wants to do. As soon as we hired Jacob as Tatum's vocal coach, we had IMMEDIATE results! In her freshman year, Tatum had the confidence and ability to try out for the school play "Hairspray". We were so happy to find out she made it and then even more excited this year when she was chosen as one of four sophomores for her high school choir (that had never been done before)! Recently, she played Sister Margareta in "The Sound of Music" at school. If you know the movie, you know the nuns have very strenuous parts vocally, and Tatum was also known as the "funny" nun so she had to really have confidence in her acting and delivery to get the laughs and while singing -- no less! But the biggest achievement was Tatum being chosen to participate in the All-State High School Choir! This is a five-day conference in which a student has to audition in order to sing with the best of the best in high school. Tatum flew up to San Jose State to attend workshops and sing in the famous Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph. It was magnificent and I know it could not have happened without Jacob's tutelage and encouragement. We are very proud of Jacob for obtaining his Master's at the University of Redlands. The university is known for its prestigious music program and has many concerts. During that time, as a member of "The Chapel Singers", Jacob sang with "The King's Singers", a famous a cappella group from London ( View on youtube "The King's Singers - Live - Overture to William Tell". After this performance, one member, Bob Chilcott became a faculty member at the university. As for his ability to teach, he is comfortable letting you observe (as long as his student agrees). My daughter wasn't so keen on the idea, but he had her so involved in her own technique, she forgot I was in the room. I was able to watch her any time I wanted (a teenager letting mom in)! He taught her how to breathe properly and how to hit those hard and high notes that she never thought she would be able to do. We were -- and are -- so sad Jacob moved away, but we are so proud of him and proud to have had him as Tatum's teacher. I know that whomever has Jacob as a teacher and mentor will be truly pleased with the results in the immediate improvements. The best part: of all this: You get to hear Jacob sing!
