Learning to play an instrument may not only enrich one’s life, but it can teach important life skills, such as diligence, dedication and perseverance. My private instruction focuses on the artistic playing, technical proficiency, performance skills and ultimately, the enjoyment of playing the piano and developing a lifelong appreciation for music. Additionally, I will guide the students to develop a good practice habits, problem solving skills, knowledge in music theory/history, sight-reading skills, through which the students will gain more confidence and independence in their own playing. The curriculum and repertoire may be designed accordingly to each student’s different needs, interests, potential and learning style. I also welcome students who needs help in preparation for competitions, college/conservatory auditions, music examinations, summer festivals, recitals, etc. My current and former students have won many awards in competitions and have played at prestigious halls including the Carnegie Hall in New York City. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University (merit scholarship), Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan (Full Scholarship), and Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature from The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Full Scholarship and the Langford Fellowship).
