Holly S. has 20+ years professional experience performing in symphony orchestras, string orchestras, string quartets, contemporary music ensembles, wind ensembles, percussion ensembles, and steel bands, including international performances and competitions. Holly has been a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra since 2007, and plays with the Tucson Pops Orchestra in the summer and fall. Holly is also a former member of the Arizona Symphonic Winds, in which she played 1st trumpet. Holly received a bachelor's degree in violin performance and a bachelor's degree in percussion performance from the University of Arizona in 2001. In December of 2008, she completed her master's degree in Violin Performance at the University of Arizona. Her teachers include Joan Donat, Elizabeth Adkins, Mark Rush, and Steven Moeckel. Holly has traveled to Trinidad and Tobago six times to perform in the national steelband competition, "Panorama". In those competitions, she played tenor pan with several of the 120-piece steel bands, including Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove, who, in 2005, won the competition by a record-breaking 20 points. Holly is an Arizona state certified teacher with a fingerprint clearance card, and has taught general music, orchestra, and band in the Marana Unified School District, Sunnyside School District, and the Tucson Unified School District. She formerly taught the strings classes for Catalina Foothills Community Schools, and coached elementary and middle school steel band classes. She currently teaches a full studio of 40+ private students (violin, viola, piano) in addition to freelancing and playing full time with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. She is the founder and director of the Tucson Youth Chamber Orchestras (TYCO).
