    About Holly B.

For quite some time, I have felt that my purpose in life is to help people see their potential and rise to that potential. For the past 10 years, my vehicle for accomplishing that mission has been teaching voice. I am a passionate teacher and musician. I have been teaching with my own studio voice lessons since 2008. My students consistently get lead roles in plays and operas, superior ratings competitions, and receive scholarships in college programs. I've also taught choir for 9 years, teaching grades 6-12. During this time, I emphasized to my students the need to become a holistic musician. I ensured that my students not only sang with healthy beautiful voices, but that they were proficient in music theory and ear training. I contribute my success as a teacher to my rich content knowledge, personal performance experience, and deep love and concern for my students. As a teacher, I have deep content knowledge on pedagogical tools that will help my students sing healthy and free. I am familiar with the Bel Canto method, Alexander method, and Speech Level Singing method among other techniques. I use a variety of tools to assess my students, and I consistently strive to get feedback from the class to ensure they are understanding the material. As a teacher, I give high personal accountability to my students' success and teach as if their success is more dependent on the clarity of my teaching than it is on their capabilities. Not only do I have a passion for teaching, but also for performing. I have received a Bachelor's and Master's degree in voice. Since then, I have been in numerous operas, oratorios, and other performance venues. As a teacher, I notice a difference in my instruction when I am pushing myself to become a better musician. In 2019, I decided to fulfill my personal dream of pursuing a doctorate so that I can teach higher education. I am currently in my second year as a DMA student at the University of Utah, Vocal Performance Emphasis. As your voice teacher, I guarantee that you will learn to sing with a healthy, full, balanced sound that reflects your true voice and not some fabricated sound. I will teach you how to sing on the breath and how to use the meaning of the music to connect with your internal instrument and with the audience. Give it a try! You'll love it!
