Learn to tap into the power of your own voice - sing in a safe, fun and nurturing environment
I believe that there is so much more than just technique, to learning to sing and create music. Something I've learned from my own voice teachers is the importance of both good technique and of feeling emotionally relaxed, comfortable, and free. Singing is such a personal experience because our body is literally our instrument. If we are tense, or holding ourselves back, it will reflect in our voice. The more at ease and confident we learn to feel in ourselves, the more beautiful and full a sound we can achieve. Another thing I've learned in my many years of musical training and teaching, is that in order to learn holistically and sustainably, we need to learn to love and honor our process of learning and to find out what works for us and what we need at any given moment or stage in our growth and development. When I teach I try to remember that during each lesson or practice session, we may need different things at each moment. I hope to use my sensitivity and empathy to stay attuned to all of my students and to foster an environment where we feel confident to listen to and speak up for our needs - emotionally, physically, and energetically. For instance, if we need to rest, let’s rest! If we feel tense or nervous, let’s take a minute to shake it out, stretch, breathe, dance or run around the room. If we feel discouraged, let’s take some time to focus on what we know we are great at and reflect on all that we’ve learned so far. If we feel stagnant or restless, let’s try something new. Whatever you need, I want you to feel safe to know that you matter and I honor you showing up as you are. Whoever you are, wherever you are, know that I care and that I am here to work with you to help you grow and learn in all the ways that you can and need. I look forward to meeting you soon!
About Heaven S.

Hi, I’m Heaven! Music has always touched a deep place in my heart and I feel that it has the power to be such a cathartic and healing mode of self expression and connecting to our hearts. I’ve always felt that teaching was part of my calling in life. Ever since I was a little kid I loved sharing skills and helping people learn. As I got older, I realized that what I love even more, is to emotionally support and inspire myself and others to grow towards embodying our most authentic, aligned and flourishing versions of ourselves and to follow our passions and dreams. One of my goals in teaching is to create an inclusive environment where students of all ages, identities and experiences can feel accepted, seen and welcome. As a highly sensitive person and empath, and as a non binary person of color living with disabilities, my wish is to help create spaces where we can all thrive, feel safe and be celebrated exactly as we are. I believe that by holding ourselves and being held in love and community and by learning to listen to and honor our needs and capacity, we can tap into our innate gifts and passion. I hope that the presence, experience and knowledge that I have to share, can inspire you to feel empowered - to both discover and deepen your love of learning to play an instrument, sing, or write songs. Let's have fun and tap into our creative potential along the way, as we journey together towards learning, growth, and embodying our highest selves!

Heaven has to be the best violin teacher ever!! They’re really good at pinpointing what needs to be worked on and explaining how to improve. And, while they’re good at acknowledging mistakes, they’ve have always made sure to praise the other aspects of playing. Heaven is very clear, very patient, and they will spend as much time as you need to explain in a way that can be understood. They are very sweet and they’ve never made me feel bad for not knowing something immediately. They are so fun and so kind and I very highly recommend.

I really enjoy learning voice with Heaven, which is honestly a breath of fresh air in comparison to the years of classical violin training I underwent as a child. I always associated music lessons with being tedious and methodical, but Heaven’s approach feels intuitive and genuine, yet still has an emphasis on technique. I feel actually excited and encouraged to learn and would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to pick up or improve on a musical skill in a relaxed and safe environment!

Heaven is a useful teacher. They are flexible, intuitive, and knowledgeable. They also have a more student-guided approach to songwriting, so I would not suggest them if you are looking for someone to hold your hand and ask the questions. In order for an effective class, both humans must work and have something to bring to the table. If the student doesn’t do that, it won’t work very well. Overall this has been useful to me. I want and am working on casual songwriting. The lesson has enough structure that I can work with it, but is lax enough that if I take a week off we can still do things. If this sort of description is what you are looking for, make sure to stop by!

Heaven completed a rigorous two year applied music program at Los Angeles City College, as the school's first ever double major in Viola Performance and Songwriting. Due to their passion and talent in both string playing and singing and songwriting, the department granted them the honor of majoring in both areas of study. They attended master classes, received private lessons in Viola and songwriting and four semesters of classical vocal training. They performed in countless recitals, concerts, and showcases. They also studied harmony, musicianship, piano, and guitar.
