Looking for experience? Customized lessons? Encouraging feedback? Positive error correction? With a wide range of teaching experiences and a love of education, I am always searching for the best methods for my students. Seeking the best way to guide my students began with my education degree yet continues in my professional development. I bring decades of music and teaching knowledge and ask for my students to bring their willingness to grow as a player and/or student. I can be your instructor of technique and knowledge, your cheerleader to celebrate your successes, and your coach to guide you to reach your goals. Learning is a joy, a gift, and a journey that is best celebrated with others. Music lessons: -lesson begins with the student choosing a piece to play for me followed by student and teacher assessment of playing -playing mechanics is discussed next -method book or graded pieces are used to introduce new material -one to two “brain break extras” are offered throughout the lesson with topics including rhythm, sight reading, ear training, theory work, sound exploration -lesson ends with positive assessment and a challenge for next week Writing tutoring/lessons: -session begins with an editing exercise -student shares writing assignment or homework -student and teacher assess together the writing sample -stage of writing is discussed and/or introduced (invention, outlining, rough draft, editing, elocution, final draft) -one or two “brain break extras” are offered to switch gears and learn or practice a new concept through writing exercises, games, conversation -session ends with positive assessment and a challenge for next week Questions and requests for alternate times welcome.

Gwen is a fantastic teacher! Several years ago, my then 3rd grader joined Gwen's homeschool one day a week for science, PE, field trips and recorder lessons. My daughter had a fabulous time! Gwen really is one of the best, most well-rounded homeschool teachers I know and is capable of integrating beyond these specific subjects she teaches. She really listens to your goals, concerns and needs and is creative in coming up with solutions... All so your child can learn most effectively!

Gwen did a fantastic job of teaching my struggling writer annotating literature and writing. She answered all of his questions, and gave advice when he struggled to understand the content. Her consistently positive attitude and outlook was a real encouragement to him.
