B.A in Theater

Unleash your creativity with improv taught by an experienced sitcom actor

I've been a working actor for over 20 years, holding a B.A. in Theater from the University of Minnesota. Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to perform and study acting and improv in some of the top theaters across the country. I've had the privilege of appearing in shows such as 2 Broke Girls, I Think You Should Leave, 9.1.1, and more. I've been lucky enough to work alongside talented actors like John Travolta, Edie Falco, Amy Poehler, and many others. In addition to my acting career, I have been teaching improv for the past 8 years. I not only bring all my years of experience to my teaching, but also the memory of how scary and exciting it can be when first starting out. So, I make it as fun and stress free as possible! But enough about me, now a bit about the actual class! My lessons cater to both aspiring actors and non-actors because why should only actors benefit from improv? Improv is a valuable skill that can enhance your daily life. For actors, it serves as a perfect tool to improve listening skills, being present, and the ability to live in the moment, all while being prepared for any situation. Non-actors can benefit from improv by enhancing their social skills, sharpening instincts, boosting confidence, and fostering creative thinking. I like to think of my classes as brain workouts. We'll start with the basics and then engage in fun improv games. The class is tailored to your specific needs. If you simply want to have fun and improve your confidence and social skills through improv, that's what we'll focus on. Are you an actor seeking to enhance your listening skills? That’s what we will do. Ultimately, it's your class, and I'm here to assist you in achieving your goals. Now, I know that improvisation can be intimidating, particularly for non-actors or beginners. My goal is to create a fun and supportive environment in class, free from judgment. There is no right or wrong way to approach it—just give it your best effort and enjoy the experience.

Gary is a wonderful teacher who is kind and very patient with his students and can provide you with guidance and insights regardless of your previous improv experiences. I use his class as a "booster" class to help me to stay sharp when I perform on stage and it's been a wonderful experience working with him and the other members of his class. Try it, you'll like it!

    Improv teacher

    Jan, 2015 - Present

    Out Of Your Head Studios

I am a working actor with over 30 years of experience and I brought all those years of experience to my students when I started my teaching improv to non-actors and beginners in 2015. I started because I had some friends who were struggling with giving presentations in their businesses. It made me realize that improv has many benefits that a non-actor can use in their day to day life. I taught in several Hollywood theaters and then when the pandemic hit I moved the classes to online. I love watching people grow and their delight when they do something they didnt think they could do!
