Hello. My name is Gary M. I am a singer and have been teaching voice since 1986. I studied voice with Andrew Gainey, who sang with New York City Opera, performed on Broadway, and taught voice at Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. I graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in 1987, where I performed in productions at the college, Town and Gown Theatre, Summerfest, Southern Regional Opera, Birmingham Civic Opera, as well as major sacred works at local churches. I participated in graduate studies at University of Tennessee, Knoxville where I was a Graduate Teaching assistant, studying vocal performance and vocal pedagogy, was an apprentice with the Knoxville Opera, and was a soloist at the Church of Christ Scientist, Knoxville. Tennessee. I have also performed on Off-Broadway in New York City and still perform in area theatre productions in Alabama. I have taught voice continuously since 1986 and have had students performing in opera, musical theatre, church music, country and popular music. I teach both belt and legit vocal techniques and sing in both styles myself. My own personal awards include 1st and 2nd place awards in NATS competitions, district winnings in The Metropolitan Opera Auditions of the Air in Birmingham , AL, and Knoxville, TN., scholarships to Birmingham'Southern College and The University of Tennessee, and a scholarship to the Georgia State Summer Opera Workshop for 3 consecutive years. I was also nominated to 1987 Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. I look forward to meeting and working with you in your pursuit of better singing. Thank you and until then..........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before going to Gary, my daughter had lost her desire to sing. She had recently gone through the voice changing stage and no longer knew how to control her voice. Since seeing Gary, not only is she back to singing, she is better than ever before. Additionally, Gary truly seems to care about my daughter as a person and not just about her vocal ability. His knowledge and experience are second to none. These things combined make him unmatched in the North Alabama area when choosing a vocal coach/teacher.

I studied with Gary when I was in high school, and he was my first voice teacher. Gary is a wonderful teacher and a caring, supportive individual, who really understands the ins-and-outs of how the voice works. The exercises and ideas we worked with improved my voice's resonance, range, and tone quality. With his guidance and encouragement, I was able to make great strides vocally and win a music scholarship. Not only did Gary give me the foundation I needed to get started on my singing journey, but I even continued to go back to him for voice lessons, and he helped me with things that my college voice teacher could not! Nowadays, I sing professionally with the Washington National Opera, and have started teaching myself. Gary's excellent teaching, guidance, and friendship gave me the foundation I needed to get where I am today!
