Playing music is fun for me and I want it to be fun for you too. Because each student is an individual, I create custom teaching tools to guide each student toward musical milestones at a comfortable pace. I hold a bachelor's degree in Communications and a master's degree in Music, and I've been a successful professional musician for 30 years. In high school I won the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, in college I received the Most Outstanding Jazz Musician award, and in real life I entered a state-wide competition of California saxophone players and took first place. I have taught at the high school and college levels for many years and my fingerprints are on file with the FBI. I also performed on cruise ships for years and I've been a bandleader with the largest talent agencies in Southern California for decades. I teach beginners through advanced students on instruments from the saxophone, clarinet, and flute families, plus a few novelty instruments like penny whistles and theremin. I also teach subjects that apply to all instruments like jazz improvisation, musicianship, music history, music theory, and performance techniques. The styles I specialize in include classical, jazz, pop, rock, and folk music from around the world including klezmer, Celtic, Brazilian choro, Indian raga, and early Americana.
