I am a San Francisco native and graduate of Lowell High and San Francisco State University, where I earned degrees in music performance and education. I teach all the brass instruments at my studio in Belmont. I have taught on the faculties of San Francisco Community Music Center and Walnut Creek Civic Arts. I lead three of the Bay Area's finest musical groups: The Brassworks, Gabriel's Trumpets, and The Memorial Brass. I perform with Symphony Parnassus, Golden Gate Park Band, Golden Gate Symphony, The E-Ticket Band, Silicon Gulch Jazz Band. I am also Jazz Cornetist and Musical Arranger for San Francisco’s long-running immersive theatrical show The Speakeasy. With over 30 years playing and teaching the brass instruments, I know how to make our lessons educational, productive and fun. In our lessons, I cover all the basics of playing: breathing, technique, rhythm, style, improvisation, etc. You’ll learn the language of music, some music history and theory, and we’ll play duets. As you apply yourself to your musical studies, you will experience improvement and be able to attain your musical goals.

My son is very happy with his lessons. He has been playing the tuba in his school band for a few years and was able to improve his skills and make progress from the very first lesson with Franklin.

Bugles Across America

Sep, 2001

Bugles Across America, NFP was founded in 2000 by Tom Day, when Congress passed legislation stating that Veterans have a right to at least two uniformed military people to fold the flag and play Taps on a CD player. Bugles Across America was founded to take this a step further. In recognition of the service these Veterans have provided to their country, we felt that they each deserve a live rendition of Taps by a real bugler. To this end, we are actively seeking capable volunteers to provide this valuable service to Veterans and their families.
