I teach proper technique, repetitive strain injury prevention, harmony, theory, songwriting, playing by ear, reading and writing music, improvisation, composition, four-part writing, arranging, orchestration, lyric writing, band rehearsal techniques, solo and band performance skills, music technology, Sibelius, ProTools, Reason, studio production, and engineering skills.
With 12 years of professional teaching experience in offering private lessons on bass, piano, guitar, drums, songwriting and composition, my objective is to help my students discover their potential as musicians, reach it and then transcend it. I am in the business of positively influencing their attitudes and habits, giving structure and meaning to their musical journeys in a way that will guide them for the rest of their lives.

My experience with Ernest has been amazing. He is always pushing me to be the best musician I can be. My favourite part about taking lessons with Ernest is that, in addition to the pieces I am working on, I am always given and taught something new and surprising every lesson! Wether it be sight reading out of an 1800s music book, learning jazz chords, or improving off a simple melody, Ernest has given me countless different opportunities to grow. I would recommend him to anyone, beginner to expert, so long as you love and want to grow in your music.

Our daughter absolutely loves taking lessons with Ernest. She has improved dramatically and looks forward to her lessons. Ernest is funny, patient, kind, and makes learning a joy. K really enjoys learning the "why" behind things and has been fascinated by his unique way of explaining musical theory. I highly recommend Ernest as a teacher.

Ernest is super funny and an amazing guy to hang out with during lessons. Of course, he's able to get down to business when needed. I've been able to benefit from his teaching greatly, I've definitely improved in piano. He's a pretty relaxed guy who's an amazing musician and teacher.
