Playing the piano or keyboards is about more than boring piano lessons, it’s about skills you can use in real life.

1. Learning to Play Notes. It’s what piano lessons have always been about. And sure we’ll do it. But unless you are preparing to go to college and major in piano, it’s doubtful it’s all you need to know.

2. Learning to Play Charts. THIS is what you probably need to know most to be a successful and fulfilled piano or keyboard player. Maybe you want to play in a band, or at church, or just jam with friends. Knowing how to read music charts will give you the ability to play along with any kind of music in any situation. You’ll learn how to improvise both chords and rhythm.

3. What Do You Want to Play? Why just play what others want you play? Or play notes anyone could learn how to play? We’ll talk about what you want to play whether it’s your own music, or the latest Ed Sheehan tune.

4. Make Up Stuff. This especially for folks who want to write music. Or maybe you don’t even know or never thought you could compose. But you’ll be composing in this class. And the fun part is, there are no rules!

5. Music Theory You Need to Know. Not useless music theory you’ll never use, like the three kinds of augmented sixth chords (which by the way are German, Italian, and French!) We’ll go over music theory you will see throughout your time making music.

These aren’t just piano lessons, they are music life lessons.
