Violin

Levels Taught:
Beginner, Intermediate

I have taught violin students ranging in age from 5 to 15 years old, all of whom have gone on to do some wonderful things in music! Additionally, I have 8+ years of teaching experience but I also can offer a youthful perspective!

I just graduated from Columbia University where I studied with renowned violinist Richard Rood, served as a principle violinist in the Music Performance Program, and was a top first violinist in the Columbia University Orchestra under Juilliard's Maestro Jeffery Milarsky. I have performed at venues including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. My high school had a prominent performing arts department and I was the Concertmaster of both capstone ensembles. In my time as concertmaster, our Symphony Orchestra was awarded a GRAMMY, was named one of the top high school ensembles in the country and the best in the state, and collaborated with the Martin Wind Jazz Quartet! I have played the violin for 17 years and before I went to college in NYC, I studied with Dr. Hye-Sun Lee at the Music Institute of Chicago in the esteemed Vamos Studio.

I passionately believe that everyone deserves a musical education and in 2011, I founded a charity in my hometown (Chicago) that creates, funds, and fully supports performing arts curricula in underserved schools. Since 2011 we have raised over $100,000 and have founded amazing programs in 7 schools!

I hope to have the chance to work with you!

Hi, my name is Emelia! I have taught violin since 2011 and have worked with students ranging in age from 5 to 15 years old, all of whom have gone on to do some amazing things in music!

I just graduated from Columbia University where I studied with renowned violinist Richard Rood, served as a principle violinist in the Music Performance Program, and was a top first violinist in the Columbia University Orchestra under Juilliard's Maestro Jeffery Milarsky. I have been lucky enough to perform in amazing venues including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. My high school had a prominent performing arts program and I was the concertmaster of our capstone ensembles. In my time as concertmaster, our Symphony Orchestra was awarded a GRAMMY, we were named a top ensemble nationally, and we collaborated with the Martin Wind Jazz Quartet! I have been a violinist for 17 years and before college I studied at the Music Institute of Chicago with Dr. Hye-Sun Lee of the esteemed Vamos Studio.

I passionately believe everyone deserves a musical education and in 2011, I founded an organization that creates, funds, and fully supports performing arts curricula in underserved schools in Chicago. Since then, we have raised over $100,000 and founded amazing programs in 7 schools!

I hope I'll have the chance to work with you!

I had not played a string instrument since 2011, and I remembered very little (if any) technique. After just one lesson with Ms. Suljic, I found myself getting a pretty good sound out of the violin... something I had not heard myself make in 8 years!! I found that she adapted to my skill level very quickly, and was super attentive to my needs. I plan on continuing my lessons with Ms. Suljic!! and I would definitely recommend you start taking lessons, too! You won't regret it.

Emelia is an extraordinarily talented person, but she an especially kind and patient teacher. My daughter has become more confident with violin and now takes so much pride in her work. She also has fun when she works with Emelia and we simply could not ask for a better teacher and mentor.
