Learn cello and music theory from a master
I am a professional cellist and private educator based in Los Angeles, California. I have seventeen years of cello experience, including a Bachelors in Music from the prestigious University of North Texas. I earned my Masters of Music in Cello Performance at Oklahoma State University, where my research included pedagogy and performance practice.
My former teachers include Shawn Sanders (2006-2010), Nikola Ružević (-2014) and Dr. Meredith Blecha-Wells (-2016). I have performed masterclasses for artists including Phyllis Young, Bion Tsang, Dobrila Berković-Magdalenič, Johnathan Ruck, and Kari Caldwell.
My primary education used Suzuki Method materials along with exercises by Popper and Dotzauer, and later more advanced studies such as Feuillard, Duport, and Piatti. My teaching uses these resources, in addition to personalized exercises, to help my students achieve their musical goals. These goals may include repertoire which is strictly classical, contemporary, or a blend of the two. My students receive one-on-one instruction and a personalized lesson plan.

About Donny C
4.6
(3)
I hold degrees from University of North Texas and Oklahoma State University in cello performance and music theory. During my studies I performed with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra through the Patti Johnson Wilson Orchestral Fellowship, with Principal Guest Conductor Daniel Hege.
In addition to Oklahoma, my playing has taken me across the country, including tours to Florida, Arkansas, and California. I have performed in pit orchestras with musical theater and opera productions in Texas and Oklahoma, as well as orchestral performances across North Texas (Irving, Denton, San Angelo), Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
After earning my MM in 2016 I continued to perform with the Tulsa Symphony as a substitute while holding an adjunct faculty position at The Barthelmes Conservatory in Tulsa, where I taught until 2018. My wife and I live in South Los Angeles with our cats Nayru and Kiwi, where I regularly perform and teach in person and online.

Mr. Crider was such a great teacher! I appreciated the way he adjusted every lesson to my needs and patiently helped me work through technique.
I would recommend him to anyone wishing to begin or further their classical training on the cello.

Donny always takes extra care to meet the individual needs if our daughter. He is kind in his approach, praising accomplishments and hard work. However, he does challenge her to continue to improve in musical knowledge and performing with excellence.

My son was privileged to study with Donny for two years. He made MAJOR strides in improvement with his cello technique during that time. He was challenged and encouraged each week. Donny's clarity was a great help in growing technique. Listening for musicality was never overlooked. We highly recommend him as a teacher.
