Guitar with Dillon S.

I am a self taught guitarist and have been playing for about 7 years. While music is one of my passions I have pursed other avenues for my career as I recently completed my Bachelors in mechanical engineering at Michigan State University. While at school I would dedicate time to play and study the guitar. I am a firm believer that with practice and patience, one can achieve anything. My lessons are tailored to each student, depending on age, experience, and your taste in music. I also provides students with a workbook to make for easy practicing away from our lessons. As a beginner I will teach you proper technique, how to read tablature, open chords, tips to start navigating the fretboard, guitar care and maintenance, and other good habits that will help in the future. This will all lead up to learning some of your favorite songs and just having fun on the guitar! For my Beginner to intermediate students, we really start to focus on learning how to express yourself on the guitar. This can include more advanced chords, music theory, practical use of scales, singing songwriting, recording music, and developing a good practice routine. This can look different for each student depending on what you enjoy. Whether that be blues, fingerstyle, pop, or anything else, I'll do my best to put you on a path for success. My personal journey with the guitar has been different then most. I learned how to play on a 12 string and did not have many musical friends or family influences. I believe many people can relate to the intimidation of starting something brand new. I will teach you everything I wish I was taught when I was starting guitar. The music that influences me the most is the blues, soul, pop, rock and jazz. I love playing both acoustic and electric, however the acoustic has always had a special place in my heart. Some of my favorite artists are John Mayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Misch, Pearl Jam, and Tommy Emmanuel.
