***Online lessons only until the pandemic is over***
My journey in music began when I was around 5 years old and first heard the children's choir sing in church. My mother used to tell me that I would beg her to let me sing in the choir but she would always have to tell me I wasn't old enough. As soon as I was old enough, she enrolled me in church choir and I've been in it ever since.
I have performed with the Rochester symphony orchestra and chorale, Rochester community band, Rochester civic music, church choirs and orchestras, Lake of the Isles community band, and performed Handel's Messiah at Carnegie hall in New York City. I've done some acting and singing in musicals as well.
As I got older, I discovered playing the clarinet was fun but never gave up singing. I just did them both. After becoming proficient on clarinet, I explored flute, oboe, saxophone, piano and lastly, the celtic harp.
My philosophy on teaching is "you are never too old to experience the joy of making music on whatever instrument you choose and I will strive to help you discover your hidden musical talents".
During my 20+ years of teaching, I've had many students perform with local youth orchestras, receive superior ratings in high school music competitions, win concerto competitions, be excepted to perform with the Rochester Symphony Orchestra in their playing with the pros program and go on to college to major or minor in music.
*** Lesson Details ***
Music should be fun and not a chore so I like to really get to know my students and structure their lessons in a way so the student has fun but also feels like they have learned something new or plays or sings something better than they did when they arrived.
I expect a student to schedule time in his/her week to practice since my most successful students excel in their school bands and go on to perform with local youth orchestras and other ensembles. I will remind students that they will get back what they put into it.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have music, piano, CD player, musical instruments and a music stand available at the studio.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with my instruments and some music but not all. If there is a piece of music at my studio which the student is interested in looking at, I will make arrangements to bring it with me to your next lesson.
Students at home should have an instrument, a good music stand and a quiet area set aside for the lesson. Pets should be kept in an area other than where the lesson will be taught.
*** Specialties ***
Broadway, showtunes, pop, classical and jazz
In addition to music, I'm a passionate seamstress, quilter, crocheter and knitter. I have 10 years experience teaching sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting classes and private lessons. I'm currenlty only teaching these subjects online due to the corona virus pandemic.
