My method is centered around having my students consistently learn new material, while retaining what they have learned. I’m sensitive to making sure they are challenged while also giving them material that will enable them to succeed. I customize each lesson to meet the needs and interests of each student. An example of a 45 minute lesson commonly includes the first 5 minutes being dedicated to checking in on how the practice went, and answering any questions the student may have about the material. Then there would be 15 minutes of review which would consist of finding which parts of the material are most challenging and finding the most effective way for the student to practice those parts and perfect the material. After that, there would be a three minute pause during which the student would listen to the new piece (whether it be material I introduced or material they suggested) so they can write down everything that they enjoyed and perceived about the new piece. Then there would be 15 minutes dedicated to something new, oftentimes the new material would introduce a new element, either harmonically or technically. The last couple of minutes would be focused on my giving a recap on what the student can practice between lessons as well as giving the student an opportunity to ask questions or give suggestions. After the lesson, I send video recaps of the material taught and the way it can be studied.

About David T.

I'm an Argentinian/American musician who decided to pursue music as a career when I was 8 years old. I had just seen Al Green perform at the Apollo and was awed by the incredible impact and joy music can have on people. With the support of my parents, who are musicians as well, I began studying with private teachers immediately. By the time I was 11, I was performing consistently in venues in Buenos Aires. At the age of 18, I moved to the US to study at Berklee College of Music. Later, I moved to NY where I began writing music for dance performances, theatre, short films and documentaries. In addition to these artistic projects, I began teaching guitar and the writing of music which I've found has deepened my appreciation and understanding for music even further.

I can not say enough good things about David. HIs lessons are well thought out , special and geared towards the individual. His exceptional training really comes through during the lesson. More importantly, David's love of music is infectious and the lessons seem to fly by. I am most impressed with David's patience and enthusiasm when giving lessons to my son. My son has excelled under his guidance which is no small feat considering my son's substantial learning disabilities. That is perhaps David's biggest strength. David worked with my son to come to a teaching method that my son could comprehend and excel under. I am truly impressed and very grateful for the extra time and care he takes to make my son's lessons meaningful. I am available to address any questions a potential student may have . David is THAT good !!

David is such a talented and skillful musician who has re-inspired my guitar playing journey! He is a patient and encouraging technical teacher. In addition, in each lesson, he brings well-rounded information about the music, the artist, and guidance for feeling the emotion of the music. I highly recommend him for any level student!

Experience

Music/Guitar Teacher
Jan 2016 - Present

Private teaching

I can’t separate my life experience from music. I grew up hearing my parents perform, and from an early age found songwriting to be my principle form of expression. Songwriting also enables me to understand my experiences in a more intuitive way. My teaching is tied to my experience as a performer and songwriter, in that the central element of all these things is a shared experience. In performing, I experience the power the present moment has through the connection made with the audience Through my collaborations, I’m able to connect with other artist’s forms of expression. While teaching, I strive to inspire my students to appreciate how amazing music is for understanding life and for relating with others. Lastly, music has given me a way to be involved in other artistic mediums. My projects have included writing music for a play at the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, writing music for dance at the Rubin Museum in NY, and writing music for an award winning Argentinian documentary. I’ve taught music for three years and incorporate my many years of studying different styles such as Argentinian Folklore, Tango, Blues, Samba, Country, RnB and Pop into my teaching.
