At 27 years old, David Neves is one of the most active and exciting trumpet players in New York and Boston’s jazz scene. Neves was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, he was chosen to be a member of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute. Through this program, David had the privilege of studying and performing with some of the most accomplished and well-known jazz musicians in the world, including Wayne Shorter, Dave Liebman, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, and George Garzone. Neves then attended the prestigious New England Conservatory where he received his Master’s of Music in Jazz Performance.

A world-class musician, David’s talents have sent him all over the globe to venues such as the Tokyo Jazz Festival, Torino Jazz Festival, Panama Jazz Festival, and the Newport Jazz Festival. In 2010, Neves traveled to Sydney, Australia, where he won first prize in the International Trumpet Guild’s Jazz Solo Competition. Recently, Neves was faculty at the 2016 Torino Jazz Festival where he conducted masterclasses, as well as the advanced ensemble that was featured at the festival, performing “April 14th, 2013” from his debut album, “Progress Report.”

In February 2014, David independently released Progress Report, his first full-length album as a leader and composer. This project debuts intriguing, all-original music, and David is joined by some of the finest young musicians in Boston and New York.

A recent recipient of the prestigious Artist Diploma in Jazz Studies at the Juilliard School under the direction of Wynton Marsalis, Greg Gisbert, and Ben Wolfe; David is currently performing and teaching in the New York, and Boston areas.

David was great. The class was a lot of fun and I learned exercises and pointers that I could put to use right away. Looking forward to my next lesson.

Definitely recommend Dave as a Trumpet teacher! I'm a musician but had never played trumpet; Dave helped open a totally new side of my musicianship! He is so knowledgable not only in Jazz, but all other genres of music as well. Dave won't just make you a better trumpet player by focusing on technique and learning the instrument, but he'll also make you a better musician overall with his well rounded approach to music and theory. He is also just a super awesome guy and easy to get along with and feel comfortable around. Definitely recommend for any ages or skill levels!

I've been taking lessons with Dave since I moved to America last August. I was nervous about switching teachers as I had had the same one for a while in Australia, but Dave has been amazing. He's helped me get my chops together, and helped me fix bad habits, too. He's also a great person and really easy to get along with which makes the learning process much more efficient. I recommend him highly!
