I love music. I love playing it, writing it, teaching it, listening to it, even analyzing the theory! I'm a bit (a huge bit) of a music nerd.
I've been playing piano since I was five years old, and guitar since eleven. I have a Bachelor's of Music Education, with classical guitar being my primary instrument. In the past, I have taught middle and high school orchestras, elementary general music, I have been the Executive Director of a non-profit youth orchestra, and I have maintained private students because of my passion for teaching one-on-one. I have a particular knack for getting middle school-aged through adult students excited about new aspects of music.
My passion truly is to share music with others, whether that is through teaching private lessons, teaching in public school settings, composing, or simply bringing a friend to a concert.
Aside from music, I love being outside. Skiing, fly-fishing, and backpacking are some of my favorite things in the world.
*** Lesson Details ***
I teach guitar (beginning through advanced), and beginning violin, viola, and cello.
Although classical guitar is my primary strength, I am more than willing to teach any style that a student may want to learn. If you want to learn rock, blues, jazz, etc. I'd be thrilled to teach you that particular genre. To me, style is simply a vehicle to learn over-arching musical ideas and skills.
The most important skill that I can help students develop is reading music. If a student can read music, regardless of current technical ability, ambition, or musical preferences, they will be able to learn more music than I will ever be able to teach them. I make it my serious goal to teach myself out of a job, to give students the tools that they need to go out and learn as much as they possibly can (or want to), so that when our lessons eventually come to an end, they have a solid base from which to grow.
My personal style is fairly laid back. I am a very easy-going individual, but I do expect that my students practice. As long as a student is practicing and putting forth effort, I will bend over backwards to help them.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I have my own instruments and books. I expect students to have their own instrument and be willing to buy books as well.

Certified teacher of music in the state of Colorado
Very positive experience. My daughter really enjoys her lessons and looks forward to the next. She has learned a lot. Highly recommend!
He was very easy going and yet professional. I felt that he was able to cover a lot of ground in an hour and felt it was well worth the money. I liked that he not only pointed out things that could be corrected but also things I was doing right.
David is a great Guitar teacher.
David has been a great guitar teacher for my teenage kid! He was patient with her but he also challenged her to work harder. My kid learned a lot in just a few months, from no experience to being able to play somewhat difficult scales and chords! I believe that Davidâs experiences both as a high school teacher and as a musician help him to be a great guitar teacher.
David is a wonderful teacher and a great person. I can not be happier about the decision I made to have David teaching guitar to my son.
Patient, knowledgable, and challenging
I am not the student. I am the grandmother of the 8-year-old student. David is very patient with my grandson yet insists on the kid practicing. He challenges my grandson and has earned the respect of both my grandson and me. My grandson is learning a lot and enjoying the experience very much. Kudos to David.
