I played viola in the Jamestown String Quartet based in Williamsburg, VA. For the past few years, I also served as the primary contact person working with clients. Our quartet performed mostly for private events such as weddings and dinners/receptions.

Violist and Coordinator

I work with the viola students in the middle school and high school orchestras. We work on intonation, rhythm, bowings, and we are learning music theory basics.

Those who want to play viola are different- I love teaching people how to play this awesome instrument! The most important things in playing viola are intonation (since the viola often harmonizes with other instruments) and bow control, as that is the key to a good sound. You'll also learn rhythm and how to read music. Come learn the best instrument in the orchestra with me!
*Note: at this time I am only taking on intermediate students, as I can only teach lessons online at this time due to the pandemic. I would consider anyone who has been playing for at least 1 year to be intermediate level.

My name is Crystal and I've played viola for over 25 years. I can teach both violin and viola. I play professionally and just for fun. I have a bachelor's in music from Vanderbilt University where I studied with Kathryn Plummer. l love teaching people of all ages how to make music!
*please note: in the video below, I mention that I teach in Williamsburg, Virginia- I have since moved to Little Rock, Arkansas- but my teaching approach remains the same!*

My nine year old grandson had his first lesson with Mrs. Graves today and she was wonderful with him! We were both very happy with his lesson.
