Hello! I'm Courtney!
I'm located in sunny Santa Monica, California but grew up in the snowy mountains of Vermont! I grew up participating in chorus, band, jazz band, and musicals! My youngest sister is 10 years younger than me and from the time she was born I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I started babysitting and volunteering at camps as soon as I was old enough, and now have been officially a music teacher since graduating in 2012. I love living between Hollywood and Venice where there is so much music, art, and culture. It's incredibly inspiring that I get to help students start their musical journey, while watching friends achieve their artistic dreams!
I have a Bachelor's from Hartt School of Music and a Master's from Boston University, both in music education. I've taught both in public and private schools and still hold a teaching license in the state of Connecticut. Since moving to California, I have decided to take the next step in my teaching career and build my own studio! I hope to work with beginners of all ages, students with special needs, and create music classes for students beginning at birth.
One thing that may separate me from other teachers is my background in education. Beginners of any age are impressionable and it is so important to teach singing in a way that is healthy for the voice, body and mind. Young students are especially fragile because their voices are still physically developing. I strive to make my lessons engaging and fun, but also promote healthy singing based upon their age so that a student has many years of music making ahead!
Fun Fact: I have a service dog named Duke! He may make an occasional appearance because he loves music!
I filled many roles assisting the head music director with classroom teaching, choral teaching, and putting on the 6th grade musical!
