    About Connor T.

I am a trumpet player, composer, arranger, and teacher based in the Austin Metroplex. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas State University with a degree in Music Education, and recently finished a Masters Degree in Trumpet Performance from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. As a performer, I have played with groups such as the Henry Mancini Institute Big Band, The Miami Sousa Band, the Austin Symphony, and toured through Eastern Europe with a baroque chamber orchestra. I've also played with Maria Schneider, Donny McCaslin, and John Secada to name some more contemporary artists. In solo repertoire, I specialize in contemporary/avant-garde literature and recently recorded Nelhybel's "Golden Concerto" for trumpet and piano, the first recording known to exist of the work. I was a semi-finalist for the National Trumpet Competition, and was an All-State musician in high school. In my composing/arranging, I try to stretch my writing style as much as possible. My String-Quartet Miniature has been read by the GRAMMY award-winning Attacca Quartet, and I have been published by Pulitzer Prize Winner Jennifer Higdon for my brass arrangement of her "Sky Quartet." Recently, I wrote and produced the music for Keaton Towns' animated short "Straight Ahead," available on his website and on YouTube. I am a certified K-12 Music teacher in the state of Texas, and was Brass Artist-in-Residence for the Donna E. Shalala MusicReach program in Miami, Florida. I have taught at every level of public school, from general music in Kindergarten to full band in High School. Teaching is what I get the most joy out of, and is also what I practice the most out of all the disciplines that I participate in. I have found that my musical successes are due to planning my work, and working my plan. I look forward to helping you with your plan and with your work!

Begun in 1920 as the Texas Band Teachers Association, the Texas Music Educators Association is an organization of over 10,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. TMEA is comprised of five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary and College. On behalf of its members and Texas schoolchildren, TMEA carefully monitors the actions of all state decision-making bodies on issues affecting fine arts instruction in Texas. In addition to many member benefits, TMEA offers professional development opportunities for its members with Region workshops and especially with its annual Clinic/Convention. TMEA supports the future of music education by offering scholarships to music education majors and by sponsoring the Texas Future Music Educators, an organization through which high school students interested in careers in music education learn more about what to expect in their college education and future careers.
