Cello with Codi W.

Hello! My name is Codi, I play cello and viola, and I compose. I attended Stephen F. Austin State University for four years and graduated with a bachelor's degree in music. I've been playing cello since I was eleven, and I picked up the viola in the last two years. I decided to major in music because, when it came time to graduate high school, I couldn't bare the thought of a life focused on anything but music! I started composing in 2017. I've written several pieces for solo instrument, solo instrument and piano, and string ensemble. I love to write music, specifically for cello ensemble. Four of these pieces have been performed by faculty and students at SFASU. I would love to see my students gain interest in composing, even write and perform their own music. When it comes to learning an instrument, I strongly believe in letting students tell me what they want. If there is a certain style of music you like, we can play that. Interested in music theory? We can discuss how we build and examine music in order to understand it in a deeper way. If you don't know what you like yet, then we can search for it. I want my students to always be excited to come to lessons and eager to go home and practice afterwards. At the end of the day, it's all about what you, the student, want to learn.
