    About CHUN W.

At age of 28, pianist Chun Wang has already garnered acclaim as a promising artist. A review from The Friends of Music described his recital in Durban, South Africa as “truly remarkable”, and his debut with Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra in 2010 was hailed by the local newspaper Beeld of South Africa for “the full sound and magic he obtains from the Steinway to disclose the true French romanticism…One does not often hear a pianist with so many lyrical qualities in mostly lustful and powerful music.” Born in Fuzhou, China, Chun Wang started playing the piano at the age of five. With excellent progress confirmed with prizes in major national competitions, he entered the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing for further studies at the age of 13. He completed his Master of Music degree in May 2015 with Robert McDonald at the Juilliard School in New York and joined Manhattan School of Music in September for his doctoral studies with Solomon Mikowsky. In his professional career, Chun Wang has performed at many famous venues such as Salle Cortot in Paris, Wigmore Hall in London, Sala Cecilia Meireles in Rio de Janeiro, and Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires. He launched his career in Latin America after winning the Villa-Lobos Competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2006, starting with several performances in Argentina in the following years, including a concerto appearance with Buenos Aires Philharmonic (Teatro Colon) Orchestra. In June 2016, he made his first appearance in Cuba with the National Symphony Orchestra in Havana, playing Richard Strauss' Burleske. Chun Wang later performed the same concerto at his New York orchestra debut in 2017 with MSM Symphony Orchestra, which received critical acclaim. He is also a laureate of several major international contests such as the 2008 UNISA (University of South Africa) Competition in South Africa, Grand Prix Animato in Paris, and Japan’s most prestigious Hamamatsu Piano Competition. In April 2017, he became the third Chinese ever to win the prestigious Jaen International Piano Competition in Spain, one of the longest-running music contests in Europe, along with a CD release from NAXOS in 2018.
