I began to dance as soon as I could walk. However, my formal training began at Orange Coast College with some of the most renowned dance instructors. The curriculum for certification to teach dance was a rigorous one involving video taped dance exams, required annual performances, required reading and summarizing of textbooks, speech presentations of researched information pertaining to dance and dance critiques and essays. And concluding the process, I underwent a dance instruction internship to solidify my education with Huntington Beach High School of the Performing Arts, Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, and Mary Butler Middle School in Long Beach, California. From there, I designed the teaching techniques that I utilize until this day. *** Lesson Details *** I strongly believe that encouraging words and kind corrective criticism produce highly effective results. Its very important to build confidence in the student but, at the same time, let them know what needs to be adjusted to learn dance technique accurately so that injury can be prevented. Not only is technique important but, also prevention from long term damage. It's true not to take yourself too seriously, however a strong foundation for dance technique requires some discipline and a desire to learn and improve.
