Over 30 years violin teaching experience. I have successfully taught students ages 3 to adult. Anyone can learn to play the violin. Lessons in a comfortable setting in my studio.
*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are taught in my home in a comfortable setting. Parents are encouraged to sit in on lessons and are expected to help their child practice. I teach the Suzuki Method and the Suzuki book and recording are required. I will change details to suit a student, for instance I teach note reading long before a traditional Suzuki teacher would and I will add non-Suzuki materials into lessons if needed.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Young students are started out on a play violin so they can learn the proper positions before they graduate to their real violin. I will assist parents in finding the right instrument for their child.
*** Specialties ***
I have never found a child who couldn't learn music. Obviously, some will learn faster than others, but with the right encouragement and help from their parents, any child can learn to play the violin.
Played with Lake St. Clair Symphony Orchestra for 20 years. The last 5 years I sat assistant principle II Violin.
Completed training to teach Suzuki Violin Book 2 from Stevens Point Wisconsin
Mrs. Gulas is a very good teacher, we are very pleased with how far our child has come and so quickly. We have been with her for a year now, and will be continuing his education with her for as long as we can.
Miss Charlene Gulas is a wonderful teacher! she is very patient and kind while teaching our 8 year old daughter.
Charlene possesses the perfect combination of skill, talent and temperament to make an excellent instructor and teacher. Not only does Charlene have significant skill and experience as a musician but also she has the ability to effectively demonstrate and communicate the principles and techniques of playing the violin from the most rudimentary level (i.e. my level) to the experienced level of serious talented students. Charlene does all this in a relaxed but serious manner. It has been my experience, that when noting deficiencies, Charlene addresses them with patience and corrects and guides the student along in a manner that is both honest and effective but never discouraging or dispiriting. Charlene is very adaptable at modifying her teaching methods or approach and can accommodate instructing elderly retirees (i.e. individuals like me) or some of the youngest students with the tiniest violins you ever saw. In other words, Charlene is very good at assessing a student's goals and asperations and customizing her approach to the individual student's needs and current abilities. Charlene sets clear goals for improvement and learning new techniques and motivates the student to improve and strive for a realistic and achievable level of skill. I would recommend Charlene to any student of any age and any skill level.+ Read More

Very patient and encouraging. Sets realistic goals. Great experience even as a parent observing.
She is ONE super sweet and very Kind person. It was my first lesson on violin ever - so I was making a bunch of errors from holding the violin and moving the bow. She was very patient with me and explained very nice.
Charlene is absolutely wonderful! She is patient and accommodating. My 10 year old son looks forward to his lesson every week. We are so lucky to have found her as a teacher.

For my first lesson ever I think it went very well.
What a wonderful, encouraging, patient teacher! This is our first experience with violin and the Suzuki method. My almost 6 year old came home today from her lesson smiling from ear to ear and said, "I had so much fun!" I am amazed at the sound that I'm hearing from her violin already. Charlene is one of those special teachers that all parents hope to find.+ Read More
Megan loved her lesson! Charlene was great!
My son took violin lessons with Charlene as a preschooler through 3rd grade before we moved away from Michigan in the early 1990s. I only have the best to say about Charlene's abilities as a thoughtful, attentive, proactive, discerning, creative teacher. She loves what she does, which showed in my son's attitude about attending lessons and his continued passion for music and string instruments 20 years later.+ Read More
Charlene is a most capable teacher and very very patient with even the youngest students
My daughter began lessons with Charlene last summer. When I first started searching for teachers, I was told that she was too old to learn the violin. Charlene has proved that is not the case and I am amazed at the progress my daughter has made for never having played an instrument before. Charlene's dedication to her students, along for her love of music, is evident in her teaching. We are both so happy we found her.+ Read More

Charlene has done a wonderful job with teaching my 6 year old daughter the fundamentals of playing the violin using the Suzuki method. She has not only helped technically, but has also given my daughter the encouragement and patience necessary to develop her confidence with playing.
