I have played the piano since I was 5 years old. My grandmother was my first teacher and then I continued with many other teachers. After over 10 years of piano lessons, playing clarinet in the concert band and singing in the choir in high school, music has become a part of who I am. At a young age, I learned to perform, at least once a year while I took piano lessons and later on every Sunday with my church band. Music for me has been a skill to master, but also a gift to share and serve others in my friends, family and community. In the last few years I have been able share my love of music with others by teaching students of all ages the basics of piano and music theory. I have also directed musical ensembles for churches and a music school, coaching students to be able to perform and play together. Outside of music I teach and manage various programs and summer camps for youth and children. *** Lesson Details *** During lessons, students can expect to learn or improve their technique, sight-reading, and theory in order to be prepared to play a wide variety of genres. Every student will experience a unique lesson because I do my best to work with students on an individual basis, encouraging their strengths and motivating them to strengthen what is most difficult for them. I ask each student what their personal goals are so that these can be accomplished within a reasonable time. I am a very patient and kind teacher, my students enjoy their lessons, but they are also pushed to work on the things that need improvement, even if it takes time. I encourage students to practice throughout the week in order to see the progress that they hope for. After 6 months, most beginner students should be able to read beginner level music, play scales and chords and perform a piece that they are confident with. Intermediate students should be able to play more advanced pieces confidently and go beyond just playing the notes to communicating through music. They should also begin to be able to learn music on their own by sight reading and/ or by ear.
