Build Solid Snare Drum Skills from a Top Percussionist

Hello Students, I have been playing most of my life. I started playing professionally at 17, playing with a number of professional bands playing all over Michigan. I have been teaching drum students since the age of 19, teaching well over 500 students to date. Teaching students has been one of my passions with music. I hope to motivate my students to learn to play and love the drums as much as I do. I work with each student on an individual basis to help them learn and understand drumming technique using books and techniques that will help to develop instinctive skills and ear technique. I work with snare drum / rudimental technique with all my students and drum set technique, as most students want to learn how to play a drum set. Many of my students are in school band learning snare drum and percussion technique. Basic snare drum technique is important for any student to master and understand to learn to apply to snare drum and drum set technique. Building a solid foundation of skills and understand for a drummer is important. This allows a student to help push their skills to become a solid and skilled player.

I work with students of all experience levels and ages. With all the years playing with a number of band and worked with over 500 plus students, I have developed strong technical skills. I have also studied with several of the top notch teachers in the Metro Detroit area. Patience and motivating my students is part of my teaching style. As each student is unique, I work with each student on an individual basis to build a strong foundation of playing skills. I teach Drum Set, Snare Drum and Rudimental Snare Drum Technique. As a teacher I specialize in teaching snare drum technique used in most school /marching bands and drum set technique with rock & classic rock styles. I typically use books and playing with music to teach ear techniques. Using music teaches a student how to use their learned technique as well as developing their drumming instincts when playing with other musicians. I teach in studio lessons in my Metro Detroit drum studio as well as teaching online lesson’s with Skype. For in studio lessons, I have 2 drum kits where I can play side by side with my students. On line lessons, I use Skype with high quality cameras. This will help the student see me with a clear view as I work with them during lessons. I also have a number of online videos that my students can watch in between lessons that will help with lessons and technique.

I have been playing drums most of my life. Through the many years of playing in band in the local clubs, I have developed a large variety of styles and technique, as each band I played with brought new challenges. Playing with my bands typically 5 nights a week for years has given me a lot of time molding my skills as well as working in the recording studios cutting drum tracks for my bands as well as other local artists. I also sang lead and backup vocals in all my bands, a challenge for any drummer playing drums and singing at the same time. My love for drumming started about the age of 4. I started learning technique in the 4th grade school band. I continued through high school learning snare drum technique along with a variety of percussion instruments. Marching band also helped to push my technique. I also started lessons with several well respected drum instructors in the Metro Detroit area. This helped to focus me to work with drum set technique and explore different styles of playing. At 17, I joined my first band playing professionally in the Detroit area clubs. I have continued to play and perform over the years with a number of bands playing all over Michigan, Canada, Ohio and Pennsylvania. I have also spent a lot of time in the recording studios with my own bands as well as laying down drum and vocal tracks for other musicians. At 19, I started to teach private drum lessons. I have continued to teach over the years with students of all ages. I have also hosted several local Drum Jams recitals featuring many of my drum student. I take pride in seeing my students grow and develop as solid confident players!
