I LOVE giving music lessons! I tailor each lesson to fit the students interests, as well as give them a strong general music foundation to carry them through their musical endeavors! Music is FUN! Why should learning about it be any different?

From rocking out on the drum set, to working up a marching snare solo, to developing excellent 4-mallet technique, the world of percussion is an exciting place to be!

Teaching since:

I am a professionally trained percussionist, guitarist, and sound-engineer. I graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Technology, and a Masters of Professional Studies in Music Performance.

I am great with young or beginning students. I tailor each lesson to fit the students interests, as well as give them a strong general music foundation to carry them through their musical endeavors! I have worked with many students in a variety of styles, including rock, finger-picking, jazz, song-writing and country.

I have been giving lessons to students of all ages in percussion, guitar, electric bass, and beginner piano for about 4 years. I taught one of the guitar studios at FHSU, as well as some percussion students as part of my graduate assistantship. I am passionate about helping students of all ages reach their musical goals and have fun while doing it!

I love to perform with other musicians! I have participated in many musical ensembles while at FHSU, including both jazz ensembles, both concert bands, marching band, pep band, both choirs, and the percussion ensemble. I have also been a wedding DJ for the past four years, and a radio station manager for the last two years. I sit in with a small jazz quartet when I am available and I frequently play with a country band around northeastern Kansas.

I truly love teaching one-on-one lessons. I especially love working with beginners so I can start them off on the right path!

The lessons began by discovering what level I was at currently at and working from that point forward. Dexterity exercises along with creativity training really moved me forward. I am so blessed to have worked with him! He really knows his stuff!

I took bass lessons from Cameron through a college class. In just one semester (one lesson a week) I learned a years worth of music theory. Cameron explained it in a way that made sense. I learned a lot in the time taking lessons. Also became more confident in my playing because I learned about scales and many other aspects that help with playing around on the frets. Cameron is a great teacher and I would recommend to anyone!

Cameron is an amazing instructor. I started off taking drum classes from him as a part of his graduate work, and enjoyed the classes so much I decided to take them privately. Mr. Shoemaker has a good way of figuring out where people are at with their skill level and giving them goals and tips to help them improve. I consider it an honor to have taken classes from him.

Cameron was my first drum teacher and he helped give me a solid foundation in drumming. Going into my first lesson with Cameron, I had been playing the drumset as a hobby for several years but I never had a formal lesson. Cameron taught me how to read music better, and he helped me fix mistakes I was making in my technique. Other than the technical lessons like how to read, count, and play, Cameron taught me how to enjoy practicing and how to relax when I was playing. This made making music more fun and has kept me playing since.

I received lessons from Cameron for a semester in college and I am definitely a better musician because of it. I had taken guitar lessons before and it was more fun than my lessons with Cameron but I didn't get as much out of the experience. With Cameron's extensive knowledge about music theory he was able to teach me all the information I will need as well as many practice techniques to become a better guitar player.
