Trumpet with Calypso P.

At Miami Dade College, I earned an Associates degree in Music Education. Through my studies at Miami Dade College, I have been able to become a certified substitute teacher at MDCPS. I have been playing trumpet for about ten years now. Throughout my musical career, I have studied different levels of music theory and participated in ensembles like wind symphony, jazz band, marching band, opera, musical theater, and choir. In these different ensembles I learned how to balance and blend my sound with the surrounding instruments. By being in a variety of ensembles, I have experience in using different techniques to help fit the styles of classical, jazz, and even contemporary music. With these experiences I have been able to excel at releasing tension in the lips, and using proper breath support to help create a present and clear sound. Trumpet students can expect to improve their theoretical and practical knowledge with every lesson. I teach beginner students the basics of holding the instrument, and caring for the instrument. Beginner students will learn how to produce the proper embouchure to create a clear sounding tone, and how to understand different playing styles/techniques for the student's choice of music genre. I aim to use my knowledge and experience to create a welcoming environment in which students will feel encouraged to pursue their passion and become a better musician.
