About Bryan B.

I specialize in teaching beginning and intermediate students from ages 7-18. I can work with all types of learners and help them get a good foundation in rhythm, technique and basic drumming styles.
I have been playing drums and music for over 15 years in various formal and informal settings and uniquely, I have vast experience playing in spiritual contexts such as church worship bands as well as meditative and devotional music. Having lived in an ashram for 7 years and used music for spiritual enrichment, I can bring a unique element to the classroom that inspires students in life beyond just the practice room or the concert hall.
Some of my specific musical qualifications:
I have studied with Denver jazz artists such as Paul Romaine and Mike Marlier and classical instructors such as Doug Walter. From my studies at CU Boulder studying music education, I gained a wide variety of experiences from African drumming and dance, to orchestral percussion and styles of drumming including jazz, funk, latin, afro/cuban and second-line. I have experience teaching music in a wide variety of situations including privately as well as in public schools. I have a personal interest in traditional Indian hand drumming (mrdanga or khol) which is used with spiritual music as a practice of meditation and mindfulness.
There may be many expert drummers, but not all of them can teach. I have the training and experience to teach them. Whoever you are and whatever your interests are, I can help you get a strong foundation on drums, expose you to new styles and uncover the potential you have within you for newer and newer heights in the art of drumming.
