I'm a 33 year old professional musician who has been playing drums and percussion for the last 19 years. I've taught for a respected music studio in Connecticut and I continue to teach here in Los Angeles. I have played in numerous bands and toured the United States, Europe and Central America. The styles I teach are Rock, Jazz, Latin, R&B/Hip-Hop, Funk/Soul, Reggae, Folk/Indie, Metal/Hardcore and World Rhythms.
I teach drum-set and various types of hand percussion such as bongos, djembe, darbuka/doumbek and congas.
*** Lesson Details ***
I've always thought that learning should be fun. I consistently try to bring a creative and laid-back approach to teaching drums. After the first lesson most students realize that I don't take myself too seriously. Sometimes certain techniques or exercises can be tiresome or even boring. When this occurs, I switch gears and move on to something else. In my opinion, if a student is getting very frustrated it is generally best to relax and try a different exercise or beat. If we can't enjoy ourselves then what is the point?!
*** Equipment ***
I expect a student to have at least a pair of sticks and a pad. Eventually they will need a metronome for practicing and if they are serious a drum-set at some point. If you'd like to learn hand percussion I recommend having a hand drum of some kind.
*** Specialties ***
The styles I teach are Rock, Jazz, Latin, R&B/Hip-Hop, Funk/Soul, Reggae, Folk/Indie, Metal/Hardcore and World Rhythms. I teach from the heart and develop a natural feel for my students. I also use multiple books mixed into my teaching.

sooooooo much fun taking hand drum lessons from Brian! Ultra beginner student is me (shhh I'm getting better!). I decided to learn bongos plus the djembe ( I don't own either drum BUT he has them at his studio so it was cool )......He is very supportive when I try the exercises he shows me and no pressure to be a pro right away lol. I will keep coming to learn more and more I like the salsa stuff he showed me at lessons.......and don't worry Brian I am about to buy a set of bongos to practice at home! Cool guy - recommended!!!

This dude can play! Brian is a great teacher.. we did some hand drums and drum set for the few lessons we had together. I was new to learning music and glad I came across Brian because he is a chill guy with positive light. I felt as if I could take drums as far as I wanted with Brian as my teacher. I will be back for some more lessons when my wife lets me lol.

Quality drum teacher. I took lessons with Brian for about a year and his teaching style is relaxed compared to other drummers I studied with. I never felt rushed with the exercises, we always went at my pace. I recommend this teacher.
