I have been teaching guitar lessons for 8 years, both out of a storefront and in home lessons. I began with a couple students 1 day a week, and eventually grew my clientele to 35-40 students per week. I have experience and appreciate working with children, teenagers, and adults. They all offer a different challenging and rewarding experiences as an instructor.
I first picked up the guitar at the age of 10. In high school I became more passionate about music, and began self teaching myself how to play songs and solo. By my Sophomore year I began playing with bands. I self taught myself much of the foundation of music theory, and a few years later studied under a Los Angeles based teacher who helped me connect all the dots and really take my playing to another level. I continued my studies with Berklee online courses on jazz improvisation, music theory, songwriting, and recording. I perform both live and in the studio regularly.
I started teaching guitar lessons at Riffs Music in Murrieta 7 years ago. I began with 1 student, 1 day a week. I eventually expanded that to 4-5 days a week, and have averaged from 30-40 students a week the past 3 or 4 years.
I have extensive experience as a performing musician. I started performing concerts in high school, and in the year 2009 began playing professionally.
Since 2011 I’ve played over 100 gigs a year, from small bars/clubs, to large Cosplay and Camp Pendleton events for thousands of attendees.
I have predominantly played with the group Midnight Satellites/Master Splinter & the Shredders (Rock/alternative/blues/metal/funk) which allowed me to become a well rounded player & teacher
(won a Temecula Valley Music Award for Best Rock category in 2015).
I also perform with a duo (acoustic guitar), and am an experienced vocalist.
2004-2010 I performed in a heavy metal group called Dark Haven. This is where I really sowed my roots playing guitar. I gained experiencing touring, embarking on three US tours.
I am proficient at “sweep” arpeggios, finger tapping, and advanced right hand picking techniques and rhythms.
I have been taking guitar lessons from Brennan for three years now. During that time, he has taught me how to connect guitar theory with the fretboard and build on my guitar soloing over cord progressions. One thing I like about his teaching style is that he is very patient and he teaches in a way that drives you forward while also being very fun. Many of his students are very young to people that are retired age. His depth of knowledge of the guitar and Theory allows him to help you learn anything from classic rock, modern rock, or heavy metal. With his guitar instruction, I've been able to gain the confidence needed to learn songs and jam with friends on a routine basis. As in a new guitarist in my early 40s, I would highly recommend Brennan as an instructor who will help you grow while also having fun.+ Read More
My grandson has been taking guitar lessons for 4 years from Brennan. You won't find a better teacher. Not only a great teacher that really cares about his students he's a great person. If you want the best to teach you guitar get Brennan.
I have been Brennan's student for just about 2 1/2 years and he was by far the best teacher for me. I've improved incredibly because he teaches in a way that I can understand, and he keeps it interesting for me.
Brennan himself is an amazingly talented and skilled guitar player. He's familiar with how to play several songs from several different styles of music and can teach a student how to play guitar for songs that they are interested in playing. Personally, when I started playing guitar, I loved 60s-80s rock, and I learned to play songs from The Cure, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (my favorite), Hendrix, and many others. Nowadays my style of music is different, and Brennan still teaches me songs I love while keeping it difficult and fun with songs from Ozzy, Incubus, the Chili Peppers, and others. In addition to the music, he also occasionally throws in some lessons in Music Theory so you can learn to write songs or improvise solos.
In addition to knowing a lot of music and being able to play it extremely well, a major factor that makes Brennan's teaching great is that he will set a good pace for you based off of your skills. He won't make it too easy for you, a he won't make it too hard. He'll make it just difficult enough so maybe you can't quite play it yet, but you'll be able to very soon through practice.
All in all, Brennan is very adaptable to each student and has a very effective method of teaching. He will make things fun for you while still pushing you to improve with every lesson.
"I took lessons from Brennan, and he is a great teacher. I was a beginner and my first lesson was with him; he's very patient and went at a comfortable pace for me. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to learn to play guitar!"
I would highly recommend Brennan as a guitar instructor. He more than exceeds my expectations while teaching my son.
I met Brennan through mutual friends who brought me to watch one of his shows maybe 5 years ago. The way he played guitar and sang, just blew me away. After that I continued to go to his local shows until one day I asked if he taught, which he did.
My son started guitar lessons with him soon after that at age 9. My son really struggles with school, sports and just focusing in general. Brennan was so patient with him and caring, and made the lessons so enjoyable for my son. Within a year, he was playing a rock song in his school talent show. It blew me away. My son was playing Green Day, Nirvana, AC/DC, and so much more in no time. I am so impressed with Brennan's ability to teach!
I can't express in words what Brennan's guitar lessons have done for my son. Not only did he give my son something he can proud of himself for doing (playing guitar well!) but also he gave him a mentor who genuinely cares about him.
Once again, I highly recommend Brennan! I am so thankful for his kind heart, his patience, his knowledge of music and ability to pass that on to my son.
Brennan has got some serious skill and experience under his belt. He is an incredible teacher and a great guy all around! He is super patient and encourages his students to be above and beyond what they ever thought they could be. He's more than willing to teach you whatever you wish to learn and is always there if you need advice or something. Brennan has helped me improve significantly since I met him, and has taught me to focus on aspects of my playing I didn't consider addressing before. And because he teaches mostly guitar, he has some cool tricks and ideas for bass up his sleeve. He always makes me feel comfortable and gives me a good laugh every time I see him. He is extremely friendly and kind, and above all else, is deeply passionate about music. That's one of my favorite parts about knowing him.+ Read More
I have worked with Brennan on a professional level for well over 10 years now. I've seen how his students develop into amazing players. He knows what he's talking about, is kind, easy to talk with, and has an amazing ear. His ability to teach is inspiring and he will kindly push you far beyond what you might think you can accomplish with a steady pace and maximum patience. Hands down, the best teacher... he should be charging more in my opinion!+ Read More
Brennan has been my guitar instructor for 2+ years. I'm in my mid 50's and although I have had guitars in my possession for many years, all I really ever did was noodle around with online tab until I met Brennan. Since my time with him he has given me a good foundation of music theory, common chord progressions for blues/rock, and competency navigating the fretboard.
Brennan's students are diverse starting with the very young through old guys like me and he seems to do very well with all of them. It is not uncommon for local area guitarists that play the local gigs to spend some time with Brennan to up their skills.
About a year and a half ago I started playing with some buddies I've known for a long time who have played music since high school and played in bands their whole life. They are absolutely amazed how far I've progressed in a short period of time and now I play rhythm guitar and some vocals for them at some local gigs. The reason I've been able to progress is in large part due to Brennan's instruction.
I've known Brennan for almost a year now, and he's honestly one of the best, most well-rounded teachers out there! He is the supervisor for the girl band I'm in at my music school, and I've grown tremendously on electric guitar under his teachings. I'm 16, but he can teach anyone of any age in any genre of music you could imagine. Not to mention his band's shows are SO MUCH FUN, which is just a plus to knowing him. I highly recommend anyone of any skill level to take lessons with him. He can teach anything from the most complex to the most basic, from the classics to the most obscure. He's an amazing teacher, but also a great mentor and pal. Rocking with Brennan is something I hope everyone can experience.+ Read More
My son has been with him for over a year and has picked up his guitar skills from Brennan at a very exponential rate! Brennan is super nice and patient and is able to teach the student at any level and bring them up to a very proficient gutarist. Many differnt genre's he teaches too: Blues, Rock, Metal, Alternative. He has tought my son songs from Avenge Sevenfold, Dream Theatre to Canon in D. Couldn't of asked for a better instructor!+ Read More
