My name is Blake C. and I teach any style of guitar music, but specialize in Classical and Rock Guitar techniques.
I have been playing guitar for more than 30 years. I have more than 20 years professional performance, session work, and instruction.
I was awarded the President's Scholarship in Classical Guitar Performance by the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Illinois in 1990 and was awarded a full tuition scholarship in Classical Guitar Performance by the Chicago Musical College in 1991.
My primary Classical Guitar Instructor at both institutions was Paul Henry. I also studied Rock Guitar with Dave Uhrich while attending both institutions and privately studied Jazz Guitar with Scott Reed.
I studied voice with Audrey Evans at the American Conservatory of Music and Robert Long at the Chicago Musical College.
I have participated in Classical Guitar Master Classes with Hubert Kappel, Dale Kavanagh, Eleftheria Kotzia, Bruce Holzman, Stephen Aron, Raphaella Smits, Richard Provost, Nicholas Goluses, and William Buonocore.
*** Lesson Details ***
I design lessons individually according to the needs and "wants" of each student. I specialize in developing and correcting technique in technique to improve the student's overall guitar skill.
Students that dedicate the time and effort each week to practicing see results rapidly. However, if you have a busy life and are just wanting to learn guitar for personal enjoyment, I design the lessons to develop you at your desired pace.
I teach guitar to children as young as five years old and adults of any age. When teaching younger children, it is significantly beneficial for parents to attend each lesson - I have parent seating available. Having the parent(s) attend the lesson aids in guiding the younger student while practicing during the week at home. The overall musical development and progress of the younger students improves drastically with the involvement of the parent(s). All lesson materials, ranging from individual sheet music to complete method books, are provided by me; except for the guitar.
Musical talent is a wonderful gift, but correct technique is not easily acquired without proper instruction. Your skill level eventually plateaus and your ability to learn and perform more difficult guitar music is inhibited, unless you have a solid foundation based on musical knowledge and proper guitar technique. I can help you begin building a solid foundation of musical and technical guitar skills. I will guide you through the initial development of guitar skills; correcting flaws in technique is my specialty.
