I haven't a degree in ukulele, but a searing passion for playing and teaching it.
Though my original intent 6 years ago was to take up an instrument to accompany the many styles of songs that I like singing, I quickly progressed beyond beginner level, and found that I had acquired a flexible and versatile array of styles and approaches that could benefit other players as well. So, inside 2 years ago I began teaching privately, as well as taking over a weekly group of ukers. Next month, as well as leading ear training/basic music theory,
I will teach a new class through Community Ed called Rhythm Ukulele, based on the same principles as I teach privately.
I have always had music in my life, starting out with singing, and piano at an early age, then moving into trombone, that being usurped by a new-found interest in drums during the middle school days, which I continue (percussion) to play today. I dabble with bass guitar, but didn't come from a guitar background, like so many that I know - the uke is my sole string passion!
I loved taking lessons from Bill. He always challenged me to work a little harder but was always kind about it. I really needed help with different strumming patterns and that is the challenge he provided for me.
Bill is supportive and friendly, easy to work with, and very knowledgeable about ukulele techniques. I just started lessons and feel inspired to continue. His adaptable teaching technique matches my learning style.
Bill's extensive background in percussion provides a unique ukulele learning experience. I've really enjoyed learning a variety of music styles, as well as plucking and picking patterns from Bill over the last year. His love of music makes each lesson really fun!+ Read More
