Learn harp: experienced professional with a MM in Harp Performance

My goal for each lesson is to equip students with the skills they need to confidently and joyfully play the harp. Whether your goal is to play for personal enjoyment or pursue harp as a career, I welcome students of all ages. I teach both lever and pedal harp. For all skill levels, I integrate aural training and theory into lessons so that the student gains mastery over all aspects of music. My background in piano, lever harp, and pedal harp means that I have multiple tools for teaching, including both prominent harp methods - French and Salzedo - as well as experience with ABRSM, the British music education system. I teach and perform a wide range of genres, so I'm ready to help students play the style of music they're most interested in. Harp is a magical instrument! I am obsessed with it, and I look forward to introducing you to its beauty and adaptability.

I am passionate about creating beautiful music. While Classical music is my favorite genre to perform, I also regularly play harp in contemporary band settings where I improvise my part based off of chord charts. I've played everything from Jazz to Country music. I've earned my Licentiate in Performance through the United Kingdom’s Royal School of Music and my Bachelor of Arts in Music with highest honors from Union University. Then, I attended the University of Michigan on a full tuition scholarship and graduated with my Master of Music in Harp Performance with highest honors in 2019. The harp is highly adaptable and excels as a solo and collaborative instrument. I love introducing people to the harp's many charms and helping them discover their connection to it. On the rare occasions when I'm not playing harp, I can be found gardening with my husband, reading with my cat Eggplant, or baking up a storm.

I have done lessons with other harp teachers over the past three years, but Bethany has really helped me see my areas of weakness, and helped me improved on those areas. I play the harp much better now, utilizing proper finger placement with notes and chords etc. I have grown to have a better appreciation for the instrument now
