About Austin S.
I am a professional guitarist with experience performing in many genres, including jazz, rock, pop, country and much more. I have a bachelors degree in jazz studies from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.
Students can expect to learn the fundamentals of music theory and to play some of their favorite songs. Beginner guitar students will focus heavily on reading music notation, reading guitar tab, learning chords and playing popular riffs from pop and rock songs.
More advanced students can expect to learn in depth music theory concepts, technical exercises to improve ability, improvisation and soloing using scales and your ear, and learning and memorizing songs to expand your repertoire and musical horizons.
I have worked with over 100+ students and enjoy seeing my students succeed and achieve their musical goals. I work hard to find the ideal lesson plans for the students individual goals and interests.
As a performer, I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Nate Smith, Steve Wilson, Jim White, Joe Sullivan and John D'earth as well as local artists based in the Washington, DC area. I try to continue my own music education and have studied with Shawn Purcell of the Navy Commodores, Steve Herbermann, Adam Larrabee, Dan Leonard and Canadian guitarist and Juno award winning artist Mike Rud.
