Music is something that everyone can share and express themselves through, and i want to help everyone to find that avenue of expression! I studied drums at the Drummers Collective in New York City, where i studied several genres of music. I play everything from rock, jazz, soul, R&B, Caribbean, and Latin music. If a student is interested in a certain style of music i would be happy to dive into that further, or explore other genres that may peek interest. The difference between me and many other teachers is that i genuinely love teaching and watching my students grow as players and musicians. I am excited to say that I am now set up to teach online! If you have Skype or FaceTime and live anywhere in the continental United States, I am available for drum lessons!
*** Lesson Details ***
I'm here to motivate students to be the best they can be, and to answer any questions or concerns they may have about their instrument. I teach out of several books that will help develop and improve, technique, reading, and listening skills. Unlike some, i don't just "go through the motions" when teaching. I like to adapt to the students specific style of learning, so they have fun while developing a solid understanding of the material as well as practice habits. I also distribute recommended listening and encourage students to create their own rhythms and/or songs to develop musical creativity. My goal as a teacher is to cater to the wants and needs of the student, as well as create a solid foundation of rhythm and music history.
*** Studio Equipment ***
2 drum sets. One electric and one acoustic. Congas and bongos. Piano, bass guitar, and webcam. Open and comfortable space with plenty of room for a parent to sit in on lessons.
*** Travel Equipment ***
metronome, and practice pads
*** Specialties ***

Watching students who love to play and grow as musicians is why I teach.

Very good teacher. He definitely knows music
Great teacher! :)
He is excellent. goes above and beyond to make sure I'm learning and enjoying my lessons. I've noticed significant improvement already in only 3 lessons. Will definitely continue and recommend him very highly!
Austin was a spectacular teacher. He established my knowledge of music quickly, and then got right to teaching. His teaching style is highly personalized for each person, allowing them to expand on their own music tastes and learn new things. In each lesson, I learned something new, and every half hour there was enjoyable. Austin was also very friendly, allowing me to feel at ease in a comfortable environment as I learned. And learn I did. During the time I was with Austin, I learned much about rudiments, sticking, the drums themselves, and music in general. Besides that, Austin also helped me find a good set to use, advising me on quality and prices.+ Read More

Austin G. - Drums teacher
No pressure and kind. Very patient and full of ideas to break down pieces to comprehensible pieces. Highly recommended.
He knows how to teach
Austin is great teacher. Before I met him, I never touched a real drum yet. However, after 3 lessons with him, I can play with a piece of rock music of Elton John. He can find different options to practice the same routine and help overcome rookie's common mistakes. Great drummer teacher!
Austin is a wonderful instructor. He is very warm and has a ton of patience.
Rhythm tutorial for music therapist
I wanted to learn how to "translate" popular rhythms for drum kit into rhythms that could be played on one djembe drum and a temple block set. Austin was extremely knowledgeable, creative and professional in his approach. I have already taught some of the rhythms he showed me to some of my clients, and they are enjoying it very much.
Playing drums is fun
Austin is a great instructor, he makes lessons fun and you can learn how to play a song of your choice after a few lessons.
