Learn violin from an experienced teacher with a Doctorate!

I am a professional violist who frequently performs with local orchestras in Washington, DC area. I have been playing viola for nearly 30 years and have been teaching violin/viola students at all levels in my private studio as well as music schools in the area for 15 years. I have a Masters and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Viola Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I believe in the importance of a strong technical background for a good musician. After establishing a strong foundation through beginning levels, I always have my students play scales and etudes for the first part of lessons. Then we work on repertoire for a stronger, deeper, and more meaningful musicianship.

Violin/Viola lessons from an experienced teacher with a Doctorate! I received my Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in viola performance from the UIUC. During my graduate studies, I studied with Rudolf Haken and Masumi Per Rostad, the violist of the Grammy-winning Pacifica Quartet. I have been an active participant in masterclasses and music festivals in Poland, Austria, Switzerland and Spain, and performed in masterclasses of prominent artists including Jerzy Kosmala, Csaba Erdelyi, Ivo-Jan van der Werff, the Kronos Quartet and the Avalon Quartet. I was the recipient of the Chip Davis Mannheim Steamroller Orchestra Award in 2007 and was the finalist of the Coeur D’Alene Young Artist Concert Competition in 2008. During and after my graduate studies, I had the opportunity to teach violin and viola students at every level, and coach chamber music groups. I have been performing and teaching in the DC area since 2011. *** Lesson Details *** For beginner students I use the Suzuki method Book 1 and 2 along with fun repertoire to establish a strong bound with the student and the instrument. I believe in the importance of a strong technical background. After establishing a strong foundation through beginning levels, I always make my students play scales and etudes for the first part of lessons. Then we work on repertoire for a stronger, deeper, and more meaningful musicianship. I expect my students to practice regularly and always come to their lessons prepared. I use Flesch scale system, Secvik and Schradieck exercise books and I use Kayser, Campagnoli, Kreutzer and their equivalent books for technique. From intermediate to advance students, I use movements of Bach solo suites, a movement of a classical concerto and a little piece which has a piano accompaniment to master a specific technique and to give the student a sense of chamber music to improve his/her musicianship. *** Studio Equipment *** Available studio equipment: Music stand Metronome Sheet music Parents can stay in the studio during lessons
