Flutist Anthony Trionfo was recently praised as a “breezily virtuosic flutist” by the New York Times after his New York concerto debut with a performance of the Ibert Flute Concerto with the Orchestra of Saint Luke’s under the baton of Teddy Abrahms in May 2019.
Hailed as “a musician of prodigious talent and scintillating personality” by Oberon’s Grove after his New York recital debut in March 2018, Anthony has continued to bring his love of music to diverse audiences around the world not only through his playing, but through his passion for education and community engagement.
Recent engagements include concertos with the Edmonton Symphony, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra (OH) and Stockton Symphony, recitals at the Festival de Ibagué in Colombia, Ocean Grove (NJ) Summer Stars Chamber Music Festival, Florida State University and Brownville Concert Series in Nebraska, and appearances with the Jupiter Chamber Players in New York City and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra on a tour to Bilbao, Spain.
Anthony Trionfo won First Prize at the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and additional prizes including the prestigious Michaels Award, Saint Vincent College Concert Series Prize, Ruth Laredo Award, and Lied Center of Kansas Prize. He received the further distinction of being the first YCA artist to win the inaugural LP Classics Debut Recording Prize, granting him a commercial recording. In 2018, he debuted in the YCA Series at New York’s Merkin Concert Hall and Washington DC’s Kennedy Center, premiering a new work by YCA Composer-in-Residence Katherine Balch.
In 2012, Anthony Trionfo performed with the “President’s Own” Marine Band. In 2013, he appeared on From the Top as a recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award and won the Alexander & Buono International Flute and National YoungArts Foundation Competitions. Previous seasons have also seen him in performance with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Interlochen Symphony Orchestra, Colburn Symphony Orchestra and Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra, and in recital at Chamber on the Mountain, Iowa State University, Southern Adventist University, Saint Vincent College, the Levine School of Music, and the Port Washington Library.
Committed to education and community engagement, Anthony has made a purpose of bringing music to all. In 2018, Anthony was a member of Musical Encounter Interactive, a touring theatrical, and educational performance group that introduced over 5,000 children in the greater Los Angeles community to the power of music. In addition, he took charge during the Colburn School’s 2017 Community Engagement Week as the creator and narrator of “Pedro on the Beach,” an accessible reimagining of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf for elementary schools around Los Angeles. Anthony has presented masterclasses at Florida State University, Iowa State University, and University of the Pacific among others in addition to providing workshops and presentations for schools and music clubs across the country and abroad. From 2015 to 2018, Anthony was a teaching-artist for the Jumpstart Young Musicians Program, which provides ensembles, group classes, private lessons, and instruments to deserving students from low-income communities free of charge.
Anthony completed both his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, California under the tutelage of James Walker, former principal flute of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. While at Colburn, he was named a Teaching Fellow and studied the art of pedagogy under Dr. Robert Duke, the current Head of Music and Human Learning at The University of Texas at Austin. He completed his high school studies in 2013 from the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan as a student of Nancy Stagnitta. He has had additional studies with Nadine Asin, Timothy Day, Dr. Megan Lanz, Emmanuel Pahud, and Mark Sparks.
