    About Anna Lisa D.

I have taught flute lessons privately and in groups for 30 years and have been playing and performing on the flute for 37 years. I also perform regularly on piccolo, recorders, traverso, tin whistle, and piano. I have a Bachelor of Music degree with Honors in Music, emphasis in Flute Pedagogy, and an MBA from Utah State University. I perform regularly as a professional in churches, musicals, symphonies, bands, and chamber ensembles. I strongly believe that ANYONE can learn to play an instrument, given a good teacher and consistent practice. My students regularly win awards in their local festivals and competitions as well as get awarded with university music scholarships. I pride myself on being able to adjust my method and teaching to fit any learning style. I have two very intelligent daughters (now adults) with physical, learning, social, and emotional challenges/disabilities. I have also successfully taught numerous students with challenges and am creative in finding ways to help them successfully play their instrument. I really love teaching and I love music. I'm so happy that I get to combine these two loves by teaching the flute. Therefore, I do have certain expectations of my students, even those online. These sound strict and they are, but they establish a level of commitment that you will benefit from. Then everyone involved has a good time! The expectations are: 1) I expect my students to have a lesson every week. I no longer teach every other week lessons. (Sad, but true). 2) You must practice 5x per week. The amount of time per practice session varies by the ability, age, and goal of the student. Students under 18 should be checked on or supervised by a parent/guardian while they practice. 3) You need a good instrument in working condition. I am happy to recommend brands and/or repairpeople in your area. 4) You need a music stand. Any type will work. I can recommend brands and styles if you wish. 5) You need to check your email regularly because that's where I send practice instructions, newsletters, etc. 6) I will need the mobile phone number of the student or a parent for additional communication. 7) You will need a Zoom account and the app for lessons (a free account is just fine!) 8) You will need a way to print out practice sheets, sheet music, and/or theory worksheets. 9) I expect feedback! I want to know if your assignments are too hard, too easy, boring, or if you hate the style of music. I want to be part of your music enjoyment and I can only do that if you tell me how you feel.
