I've been studying music for 10 years now. Having come to music later in life than most, I find that I am more empathetic to the perspective of the beginning student than many teachers. I spent the Summer of 2009 teaching music fundamentals to groups of severely physically and mentally disabled children of all ages. Since then I've completed my Bachelors degree in Music, taught privately and with several established music schools.
To me, music is above all about transformation. Beautiful sound transforms our experience of the environment, and learning an instrument can help students approach life as one big instrument they need to practice to master.
Learning to play an instrument is also an experience of training one’s nervous system to gradually act and respond in new ways, and that kind of persistent, focused, training is applicable to any new skill.
Last and definitely not least, playing music is fun.
*** Lesson Details ***
I plan my lessons around getting students to enjoy playing music as soon as possible, whether that means learning how to strum a chord rhythmically, playing their favorite song, or how to take a blues solo.
There are steps that have to be climbed to do more complex things and I encourage students to practice a little every day rather than for a long time once or twice a week. Developing a love of music and steady practice habits are more beneficial over the long term than practicing until your limit.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I currently have a living room space where I can teach, but it's small so it might be preferable to travel to you.
*** Travel Equipment ***
If necessary I can provide amplification, cables, and a microphone.
*** Specialties ***
Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock, Hip-hop, Funk, Reggae.
I left due to transportation issues
My daughter loves her lessons with Andrew.
Andrew is great, very patient. My son is five and Andrew was able to keep him focus on the task at hand, he makes the lesson so enjoyable that my Dimico was practicing long after Andrew left. We are looking forward to more lessons with him.
It was our first class, and my daughter felt comfortable with Andrew. Looking forward to having her grow in her guitar playing in the coming lessons
Very happy with the teacher. Andrew is very patient and encouraging. Always on time and normally stays a little longer than the allotted time . Recommended definitely
Excellent, knowledgeable, patient teacher
Andrew is an excellent teacher. He is a patient listener and has a gentle style. Andrew is knowledgeable in music theory and uses creative ways to explain musical concepts. He gives a lot of encouragement and praise. I have learned so much from Andrew and I always look forward to our sessions together. I highly recommend him.
Already seeing progress
I've only had 3 or 4 lessons with Andrew, but already I'm seeing progress. Andrew is always on time and sometimes stays later to finish the lesson thoroughly. He teaches in terms of what my goals are and leads me in the direction I need to go. He is supportive and above all else he is very patient, especially since I have dyslexia and learning music theory is not an easy thing for me to do. Taking lessons with Andrew is always fun, and he reminds me NOT to compare myself to where I want to be. Learning with him has been stress-free and productive. I look forward to future progress. :)
Excellent guitar teacher. Patient. Flexible. Knowledgeable.
Even in the first lesson, Andrew got me to freshen up my basic guitar skills. He gave me excellent points on learning chords and helping me to play songs I needed to for solo performances. I look forward to taking my lessons and getting better and I'm sure I will with his help. Highly recommend giving Andrew a try.
I just had my second lesson with Andrew and I wasn't disappointed. I've taken lessons with a couple teachers now but most people weren't patient enough to show me everything I needed to get it.
I definitely recommend him!
