Songwriting is my specialty, truthfully. I can help you in your writer's block or chordal dilemmas. I have helped many students of mine write their own songs and iron out all the mistakes young songwriters make.

About Andrew P.

Hello! I've been teaching music full-time for the past 10 years. I graduated music school in 2008, holding a Bachelors in music from Columbia College Chicago, a thriving arts school in the heart of downtown Chicago. There, I primarily concentrated on music composition and guitar, while also studying piano and drums. My parents were musicians and school teachers, so music teaching is very much in my blood. I've been playing and writing songs in bands since I was 12 years old. I recorded 3 original albums in high school, which is a very unique thing. I played shows everywhere in Chicago through college and upon graduating started a successful band called Minor Characters. We worked on albums with Beau Sorenson (Death Cab for Cutie, Superchunk, Bob Mould) at April Base Studios (Bon Iver), toured extensively, and was featured at South By Southwest Music Festival in 2012 and 2013. This past year I spent recording a number of online guitar courses that are available through my business Make Some Noise, Inc.

I did all of this while maintaining a full schedule of music students, where I put on recitals at cool music venues and had kids and adults play together in duos, trios, or bands. I'd love to do the same thing here in Los Angeles!

Andrew's been working with my 13yo online for the past few months teaching guitar online. Andrew is fantastic. When we had a scheduling conflict, he went out of his way to work with us to not miss a week. He is very easy to talk with, ask questions, and motivates my son every lesson. He is clearly passionate about guitar and is a natural teacher. Strongly recommend him for both kids and adults.

As a music producer, I've always wanted to learn the guitar, my favourite instrument. I wanted to add guitar playing to my music making arsenal.
I started taking guitar lessons online with Andrew 6 months ago as a complete beginner. I was skeptical at first of how much I would learn online and if it would be worth it. However, I can honestly say Andrew is an excellent teacher who I not only recommend for his outstanding musical knowledge and talent, but also his great teaching skills that allow him to adapt to any of his student's special requests for a class.
Anyone motivated who is willing to put in the work into practicing will love the process of learning with Andrew.

We found Andrew through another family and started our lessons during quarantine in 2020 and it has been fantastic. I didn't think virtual lessons would work with my 8 year old, but it's gone really well! Andrew is patient and prolific in his music knowledge. My son takes guitar as well as works on some percussion lessons. Andrew works with us to cater to my sons interests and is really great with giving us feedback on his progress. It shows in my sons confidence and playing, we can't wait until our daughter is old enough for lessons. We highly recommend Andrew!

Andrew is a fantastic teacher. He is extremely patient with our son and has found creative ways to motivate him - most importantly keeping music fun and interesting. I have been really happy with how much progress our son has made in just 6 months!

Andrew is so good and patient with my children. He has a firm understanding of music and how to implement that into a kid’s life. He’s so positive and understanding of our needs. The kids have so much fun with learning piano, we’re so glad we found him!

Andrew is wonderful! He taught my son piano in our home for several years. Andrew taught all aspects of music, including theory, and gave my son a better base to grow. Besides being a talented artist and great teacher, he's simply a wonderful person.

Andrew is an extremely talented teacher. He's very patient and he doesn't just hear my daughter, he listens. Not only to what she plays but to what she says; I think this is why she has made such tremendous progress. I was not sure how the online lessons would work but they have not skipped a beat and if anything the online sessions are more productive. If you want a talented instructor that actually cares and will take you to the next level, look no further than Andrew!

Andrew is the best guitar, songwriting, and music theory teacher I have ever had the chance to work with. He is so knowledgeable that, in the same lesson, he could help you figure out that intricate guitar part you are trying to learn -on the spot- while also providing very insightful explanations for how and why a song is working. His classical music training helps him understand and explain music at a very deep level while still being very easy to understand and intuitive.

Andrew is a very gifted musician who masters several instruments and he is an incredibly accomplished songwriter. You have to check out his awesome music to see what I mean. I have personally used Andrew to improve my guitar, bass and piano playing while also asking him to teach me songwriting and music theory. Most of the time, a lesson would involve all of that together!

I have been lucky enough to count him as my teacher/mentor for several years in Chicago and he has helped me grow musically tremendously. I am now working with him online because musicians of his quality are not easy to come by anywhere. Los Angeles is lucky to have attracted such an incredibly talented artist. Andrew is not only the best teacher to take your music to the next level, he is also a wonderful human being!

Working with Andrew has been an amazing experience. He teaches my son guitar, bass, a little piano, music theory... really, he can teach anything you request. Their time together hasn't skipped a beat since we switched from in-home to online lessons. Andrew can pretty much do anything and play any song my son requests to learn. He keeps him on track to progress through lessons and also finds time to just jam with him for fun. Andrew is the best!

Regardless of your experience level Andrew can tailor the lessons perfectly to your skill level. I have been playing guitar for quite a few years and wanted to improve my skills. Andrew has helped me improve playing, interpretation, and voice to a much higher level.
