I think playing music should be about having fun. Lessons are often linked to visions of people sitting down with an instrument and trying to drill a very difficult piece of music over and over until they can play it right. However, my number one goal every time I sit behind an instrument is to have fun and I try to express that to all my students. A music lesson should be an environment in which one can really test themselves, while at the same time, wear a smile on their face and enjoying the art of learning. Their is nothing more satisfying to a teacher than seeing the gears in a student's head start to roll when they are learning something. Then seeing the look on their face when they finally get it is amazing. A proud expression immediately illuminates them after they realize they have climbed a mountain. The benefit is not only the fact that they have reached the top of the mountain, but the climb lead to a wide open space of possibilities.
In my opinion, the drums are fun for everyone. As civilization's first instrument, the drums tap into a generational and primordial urge that exists in all of us to communicate through rhythm. I encourage all people to take up some sort of percussion instrument because weather you 9 years old or 99 years old, bangin' a drum will bring a smile to your face.

About Andres V.

Hello all! My name is Andres and I am from Queens, New York. I have been playing drums for 13 years. and have been playing professionally for 8 years. I have been lucky enough to play for audiences around the world, from the United States all the way to Japan. I am a touring member of the critically acclaimed indie rock band, "The Lemon Twigs" and have been playing with them for the past year. I have made television appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and on Later... With Jools Holland. In September of 2018, we went on tour opening for critically acclaimed British rock band, The Arctic Monkeys. I have also played at the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. I also am constantly playing locally around New York City and love the fact that the audiences I play for range from 26,000 in a stadium to 50 people in a small club.
Playing drums is the most enjoyable thing in my life and the fact that I get to share my knowledge and experience with people of all ages makes being a musician even more fulfilling.
