I have a unique approach to voice in that I want all of my students to be able to sing in any style. I have been exploring vocal anatomy for a few years now to answer a question that has always fascinated me: how does a pop singer create a different sound than an opera singer or a jazz singer? The answer is vocal anatomy. Whether we realize it or not, all voice lessons really do is teach us how to move around our vocal apparatus in an effective manner.
I don't believe in wasting lesson time with extensive warm ups. I would so much rather have more time to teach you the content you need to become a successful singer. The other thing that is unique about my lessons is that we do not spend the whole time singing. Just like you wouldn't pick up an instrument and just start playing, singing without the knowledge of how our voice works is not time effective. I know this may sound strange, but my students are always amazed at how quickly they progress. A little knowledge goes a long way.

About Ally W.

Ally is an experienced musician and voice teacher currently completing her degree in music education. She has competed and placed in national level competitions as a soloist and has been a part of nationally recognized choirs. She strongly believes that everyone has a beautiful voice, everyone can be taught to sing, and that it is never too late to begin exploring your voice.

Ally has taught students of all ages, abilities, and vocal interests. She is experienced in musical theatre, pop, opera/classical, folk, and even metal-focused voice lessons. Her voice lessons take an anatomical approach to the voice rather than a metaphorical one. After all, what does “put more ooh in your ahh,” or, “sing like you have a softball in the back of your throat,” actually mean? Once we learn to master each anatomical aspect of our voice, we are able to make controlled decisions to impact the tone of our voice. Even children as young as six quickly latch onto the idea of a magic larynx that makes them sound like their favorite cartoon characters. The difference in anatomical decisions is what makes singers of different styles sound unique. It is Ally’s goal as a voice teacher that all her students are able to sing in different styles, developing both their voice and musicianship. This more modern approach to voice has seen rapid results, leaving one student to say, “I learned more in today’s lesson than I did in four years of high school choir!”

Perhaps more important than teaching the voice, Ally believes in teaching the whole person. Lessons are developed in a way that encourages student comfort and growth above all else. She realizes that singing can be a deeply personal thing and not every student is comfortable singing in front of strangers. Her relaxed teaching style encourages students to open up and find their true voice, not only as a singer but as a person. After all, music is one of the most powerful tools of communication we have.

If you are interested in lessons or have any questions, please reach out. Ally is currently offering lessons Monday through Friday and has some limited weekend availability.

My son loves Ally. She takes the time to talk to me after every lesson and update me on what they did and how he’s doing. I can tell she really cares and wants to see him grow.

I needed some help preparing for an audition for my school’s musical. Ally helped me with singing and the audition itself. It is so great to have a teacher who knows a lot about singing and theatre in general. I loved singing with her so much that I took lessons again after the audition. She is so great!!

I wasn't sure what to expect from a younger teacher and online lessons. I was pleasantly surprised! Ally presents as very professional and knowledgeable beyond her years. And, she was just fun to be with! I felt the lessons were very beneficial and I would totally recommend using her.
