Positivity and encouragement are the cornerstones of my teaching style! All ages are welcome. Starting with technique and posture, lessons are then customized to include music theory, music history, ear training, and sight reading. I also teach how to effectively practice on your own, so you grow every time you pick up your violin. I can't wait to share my passion for music!

About Alison S.

I learned to play violin when I was 10 and music remains my greatest passion to this day. I also sing and have performed with several bands, but there's nothing like being part of a full symphony orchestra like I was in school. I started teaching violin to my 9 year old niece in 2020 and I am excited to share the experience of musicianship with many more students!

Alison is great with my daughter who is 9 years old. She makes the lesson fun and she's very understanding and patient. I hope to meet her in person when this pandemic is over! Thanks Alison!

Alison is a great teacher - she is teaching my daughter violin and had her playing a couple of Christmas songs well after only two months of lessons. She is very focused, but when my daughter doesn't pick up on something right away, she will take a break and switch to something else briefly so they can come back to it later with fresh eyes. In addition to teaching the fundamentals, she usually throws in something fun or advanced (like a trill) once in a while, which keeps my daughter excited about and challenged by her lessons. She's patient, and she also makes the lessons fun. She gives great pointers on how to practice and what things you need to have at home to practice (e.g. music stand, metronome).
