I am a composer and musicologist. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from Claremont Graduate University. I also studied music composition and piano at California State University, Northridge where I earned my Bachelor of Music and Master of Music. I have also studied music technology and have become an expert in the music notation software Finale and the Logic Pro, The Digital Audio Workstation by Apple.
My piano lessons are in several styles including classical, folk music, film and TV music, and Broadway show tunes.
I have been teaching private piano lessons for 20 years. I teach students of all ages and develop lessons for individual needs and abilities. For kids I tailor lessons to include a variety of musical skills including technique (scales, chords, and exercises), music theory along with musical pieces that range from classical music, folk songs, film and TV music, and broadway show tunes. I create a balance to make it educational and fun at the same time. For adults, I create lessons a bit different. I develop lessons based on what goals the student is seeking. I include skills, some music theory but also musical pieces they want to learn.
I also teach in the classroom. Currently I am a college professor at the Art Institute where I teach Pro Tools, Logic Pro, MIDI Systems, and Composing and scoring for film. I have also taught in the Elementary and Middle School level. In Elementary school I have taught General Music and in the Middle School I directed the concert band and choir.
In my musical profession I compose for various ensembles including chamber groups and orchestra. I also compose and perform electronic music for the Theremin and keyboard. Currently I am also working on my musicological academic project. I am writing a book on the music of Star Wars and John Williams, an extensive book on the analysis of the film and the career of John Williams.
