    About Alec D.

I have been playing drums and percussion for 13 years. I also play guitar, sing, and am an avid songwriter. However, drumming has always been my true life-long passion. I've been training in music for the entirety of my schooling, and I am currently studying drum performance at the University of Colorado - Denver. I have had experience playing a wide variety of contemporary styles on the drums; jazz and rock music are my specialty. I've played with various Denver acts throughout my years of performing. My two main projects are Dream Pool (an indie rock band) and I Hate It Here (a digital hardcore duo). I also have played with jazz combos around the area with my most musical, personal friends. These gigs have generally been less formal (house shows, nursing home gigs, school events, graduation parties, charity events, etc.) Among the other specific acts I've played with in this city are Scrumbo Beepis, The Beeves, Times, The Cereal Company, and Slow Caves. Slow Caves are a band I played with for their 2019 west coast summer tour. We drove from Denver to Southern California, up to Washington, and back to Denver, hitting 12 shows along the way. I am heavily active in the Denver DIY music scene. I regularly play at houses and DIY venues with Dream Pool and I Hate It Here. I also volunteer, attend, and play shows at Denver's premier DIY venue, Seventh Circle Music Collective. I would be a perfect fit for any aspiring drummer looking to play the musical styles prevalent in this scene. My students can expect to learn a proper technique and a good sense of feel on the drum set. Introducing basic rudiments, drum beats, musical and technical concepts will help my beginner students gain a sense of what makes a drummer good. Spoil alert: flashy drum fills and busy playing are not essential aspects of being a good drummer! All of my students will be practicing with a metronome, as time-keeping and feel ARE essential to becoming a musical drummer. My students will be learning styles that they have a desire to learn, and if they don't know where to begin, I can set them on the right path by teaching them styles that suit their skill level. I am a student of the drum set myself, and I'm always open to constructive criticism from my students when they feel my methods aren't serving them. Otherwise, I put forth my full effort to accommodate all of my students' needs. I look forward to teaching and learning from all of the drummers I meet through our lessons!
