Hello everyone! My name is Alan, I'm a life long musician who now at the age of 28 composes, performs, and teaches music as a full time profession. My first contact with the piano was at six years old when I began taking lessons from a teacher in my home town. During this time I learned how to read music and perform in front of an audience. As I grew older I began to study other instruments; saxophone throughout grade school, and later in high school guitar and drums. Through life's circumstances, my senior year of high school I had the opportunity to become a band member of a nationally recognized pop/rock band, for whom I was the drummer. During the following 3 years, I lived a vigorous touring schedule, had the pleasure of visiting hundreds of north american cities, and learned a ton about music as an industry. As that period of my life came to an end I was ready for a change. I moved to Bogotá, Colombia (I'm of Colombian - American descendants) where I studied International Marketing and Logistics at one of the country's top universities. In the form of extra curricular classes, music would find its way back into my life; I studied latin drumming, classical piano and music theory very intensely while still keeping up with normal school work. During this time, I participated in the writing and recording of an alternative rock album, played drums in a Blues standards band and did my college thesis on digital marketing of music. From that point on to present day, my focus has shifted to jazz piano and music theory, arranging for trio and quartet formats, live performance, composition for film, teaching, and being an artistic entrepreneur. My goal as a teacher is to help my students see their potential and grow musically. I don't ask for perfection, nor do I believe in it. Dedication, enjoyment and curiosity about music are all it takes to enjoy a life long relationship with your musical side.

    Experience

    Composer, Pianist & Producer

    May, 2017 - Present

    Music

With my team, I compose music (primarily in the Jazz and classical idioms) for film projects. We have created music for a variety of projects including short films, advertisements, and YouTube channels. I also arrange our original compositions for live performance in trio and quartet formats. My responsibilities include playing piano on all recordings and in live performance, harmonic and structural development of original compositions, and the production of all recorded music that we create.

    Teacher

    Mar, 2014 - Present

    (Independent)

I first began teaching in 2014, when an acquaintance asked if I gave guitar classes. Since then I have taught a variety of subjects, including piano, guitar, music theory, English as a second language, mathematics, and even finance. In the last few years, my focus as a teacher has become the piano and music theory. I have a profound interest in these subjects and I find it exciting to share this interest with students whom are eager to learn.

    Drummer & Song Writer

    Jan, 2010 - May, 2013

    The After Party (Musical Group)

As a founding member of the pop group The After Party, I performed in 47 US states, and 100's of cities across the US and Canada. I co-wrote songs on the band's three album releases, the last of which charted on the iTunes Top 30 pop charts the month it was released.
