I have been writing and performing music since he was 15. Along the way I have played or recorded with numerous notable bands including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees George Clinton and Parliament Funkedic, and members of Bob Dylan's band. In classical music, I have learned music composition under Dan Asia at the University of Arizona and East Indian Classical music from master musician Ali Akbar Khan at the Ali Akbar School of Music. I have been teaching lessons in guitar, vocals, banjo, and harmonica for 15 years. My lessons are always focused on whatever style the student is most interested in, yet still incorporate a dose of music theory and other styles to help inspire well rounded musicians. I can teach to any age, in any genre, as well as help with songwriting, performance techniques, recording skills, and classical composition. Whether you want to learn to play songs from your favorite band, rock out with awesome guitar solos, play beautiful spanish guitar pieces, or write you masterpiece, I can help you realize your musical dreams. My goal is to inspire the next generation of musicians to get the most out of their instrument, and foster a life long love of music that can enrich their lives and the world around them.
*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher with a diverse and serious knowledge of music. I truly love music and inspiring new or continuing musicians. I can adapt my lessons to the student so that if you have professional goals I will do my best to challenge and help you to reach them, or if you are a child who is just beginning I will do my best to teach you in a fun and relaxed manner that keeps you excited to come back and learn more the next week. No matter what the age or skill level I take my job very seriously, and try to make the process seriously fun.
If the students is interested in reading standard music notation I teach from the Hal Leonard Guitar Method series, which are the books of choice for countless music instructors. After 3 to 6 months most students have finished at least the first book in the series and can read and play simple songs easily.
If you are interested in reading tablature or chord charts, I have many lesson plans from years of experience that can quickly teach you how to play everything from simple folk songs and popular music to complex Jimi Hendrix solos.
If you are interested in classical guitar, or vocals I start with books of simple spanish guitar etudes and can work with you all the way up to complex advanced works from Segovia and the other masters. In a few months, even beginning students can play beautiful pieces that will impress family and friends.
If you are a banjo student I teach from the Hal Leonard Banjo Method series. I can work with simple clawhammer techniques, or more complex bluegrass methods. In a few months most students can play many simple country and folk songs.
If you are a vocal student I can teach anything from rock/country styles, to showtunes and classical techniques. In a few months I can show how to sing and breath correctly, and help learn how to read music and train your ears to sing in tune.
*** Studio Equipment ***
practice room, amps, and the paper to write down the lessons
*** Travel Equipment ***
I have all the necessary equipment, guitars, banjos, amps, etc. I expect the student to have their own instrument, but I can provide something for the lesson like an amplifier.
*** Specialties ***
I can teach any genre or method. I base the lessons on the students desires and abilities, not on any predetermined plan I may have. I can teach in standard notation, tablature, chord charts, or improvisational methods. I can also teach songwriting, performance/recording techniques, and classical composition.
Adam listens very well. Makes learning easier.
I took 10 banjo lessons from Adam, starting iwth zero prior experience. After 1 lesson I could play and sing Clementine, after 2 Oh Susannah. Now I am working on Country Roads. Adam is great: good teacher, super smart, amazingly talented and knowledgeable, friendly. I would continue with Adam except I am moving out of town. But he got me a good enough start that I am sure I will continue with this instrument.+ Read More
Adam is great and easy to work with!
Adam did a great job of teaching Ukelele to my daughter. He was professional and kind. Look forward to more lessons
I was very impressed with Adam's lessons and learned a lot from them. He was very critical but that was something that I needed and had lacked from previous teachers.
Adam is very nice and adapts his lesson to my kid. I recommend him.
Adam was a great singing instructor, with an eclectic background of formal music theory training, instrument training from various celebrated professionals, and performance experience in a variety of settings.
His training style is pretty laid-back, but he is also willing to go in-depth into music theory. While his training environment is modest but sufficient, he is a fantastic resource!
Adam came for guitar lessons, but my 5 year olds hands weren't ready so we switched to piano and it has been great!
Adam is entirely unafraid of dishing out criticism when it's due but won't withhold praise either. He'll push you while you're with him but understands that it's ultimately up to the student to get the material. Working with him is a blast provided you come to lessons prepared and put in the effort. What you get out of your sessions with Adam depends on what you put into them. If you don't slack off during the week and leave your ego at the door he'll have you playing better in no time.+ Read More
My son is 8 and brand new to learning music. Adam is super great and truly knows how to be on the same level as a young kiddo and provide a genuine musical education. Thank you!
Very unprofessional instructor and facilities.
Recently took banjo lessons from Adam.I am older student in my 70's with no musical experience until around 65.Found Adam to be capable and smart.Good ability to recognize what I can and can't do at a moment in time. This is important,as many people who start late get discouraged.Like the fact that he uses instructional book if desired.Good for a slow, visual learner like me.Very impressed with him.Pete+ Read More
Like Adam a lot after 3 lessons.
My daughter Eve has been taking guitar lessons from Adam for four years since she was 6 years old. From the get go he was very patient and supportive and was able to get her playing songs very quickly which in turn kept her excited to continue to learn and willing to practice at home. Adam is very knowledgeable and especially good with children. Besides being patient he was also sensitive when he needed to correct her, this was important in the beginning. I highly recommend him to anyone who has a child interested in learning to play the guitar.+ Read More
Great teacher! Very patient and understands where his student's level is and provides effective instructions to help his student to get to the next level. Highly recommended!
Adam made me feel very comfortable while still being honest and offering constructive criticism. I feel confident I will achieve my goals with his guidance.
My 14 year old son enjoys taking guitar lessons with Adam.
I've been taking lessons from Adam for about six months now, and his lessons have helped me out tremendously. I'd taken lessons before elsewhere for about a year and a half, but I felt that my progress and improvement had stagnated and that I needed to go in another direction. Adam has helped me view music in a different light when it comes to both technique and composition, aiding me to grow both musically and in skill. Thanks Adam!+ Read More
My husband and I started our not-quite four and a half year old son with harmonica lessons with Adam in February of this year. Our motivation was not to create a prodigy musician, just to give our son a unique and fun experience with an instrument we enjoy the sound of. We, Adam included, were a bit skeptical as to how far we could take the harmonica with a four year old. Adam however, rose to the challenge, creating a lesson plan that matched our son's ability, motivation and attention span. He started off with simple tasks, such as making sure the numbers on the harmonica were facing up before playing (i.e. getting our son to hold his instrument properly). Such a simple task but perfect for pumping up a four year old's confidence and psyche before starting each lesson. As the lessons got more and more involved, Adam consistently stuck to one very important element: keeping it fun. And now 3 months later, thanks to Adam's outstanding teaching ability and unmatched creativity, I'm ecstatic to report that my son can play a real no-kidding blues shuffle. He's not just blowing sounds out of his instrument, he's making actual music; music that makes one want to tap a foot to. My husband and I couldn't be happier with our experience with Adam. He has far exceeded our expectations. We (and especially our son) are looking forward to continued learning on the harmonica with Adam.+ Read More
Know's a lot and makes you do it right, not just the notes, chords, etc. but he installs high notes low notes and finding the right rhythm so that it sounds as flowing as possible, Great teacher, Thank you for the patience, Will be back I would refer my friends :)
Singing with emotion
Great. Will teach you not only to sing, but how to accompany yourself with a few chords if necessary. What sets him apart is definitely the emphasis he puts on getting the song you choose in the right emotion. Takes the time to teach you to interpret the song, rather than just singing it.
